Bloody poop?
I just changed Maddie's diaper and noticed some bloody mucus (sorry TMI) in it as well. She had had a tinge of blood the other day and thought it was a fluke thing but when I saw it again with this mucus today I called the ped. We have an appt in the am but for now he told me to stop all dairy since I EBF and to bring in her freshest poop with me. Anyone's DC ever have this?

Re: Bloody poop?
yes! hannah not only had bloodied mucus but bright red bleeding (not from a fissure). to this day they still do not know why she had bright red bleeding. but they did suspect a milk protein allergy and put her on elecare formula. no blood in her poops since! hope that helps!

Re: Bloody poop?
Andy first had this about 1.5 weeks ago. The ped. thinks it's a milk protein allergy and while they are running tests we switched to Alimentum. I have found it a few times since, but the doctor said it can take up to 3 weeks to stop.

Re: Bloody poop?
DS had the same thing - i didnt' actually see the blood but there was dark colored mucous in his poop (turns out that was blood). he tested positive for a milk protein allergy. Bring a dirty diaper and the ped can test it for you. He was EBF also - instead of changing my diet we put him on Nutramigen and he is soooo much better on it. They do outgrow it though so don't worry, as you can see this is very common!

Re: Bloody poop?
very interesting. DD has the same thing. Ped. thinks it's from straining to poop (although her poop is like mustard- not hard at all). She thinks she saw a "bleeding point" but I don't see it. I'll ask her about the milk protein allergy. Babies who are breastfed can have this too, right? I noticed most of you use formula who have this problem. I eat little dairy (cheese a few times a week) & virtually no milk (only a tiny bit in my coffee, which I will cut out) because I think it might give her gas.

Andy is FF, but my doctor said that it can affect EBF babies too since it's not really a milk allergy, it's that their bodies can't break down the milk protein so it irritates their intestines. HTH!

Re: Bloody poop?
My friend went through this and she did have to go on a dairy free diet and it cleared up. A lot of the time it is a dairy sensitivity. I will say her daughter outgrew it around 9 months and can eat dairy with no problem now. Good luck at the ped.

Re: Bloody poop?
Yes I only breast fed and he had it bad - but I was eating cereal every morning, yogurt etc trying to be healthy!! For some babies you have to cut all foods that have milk proteins which can include bread, pasta, et.c It just depends how sensitive they are.

oh my goodness! that's a lot of food to cut out! now i'm very interested in what the ped. says. she never even mentioned a milk protein allergy but i have a feeling that could be it. i definitely did not see a "bleeding point" on her & it seems like too much blood to be that anyway. i'll let you know what she says! i'm so glad i saw this post!
