When did your DS/DD's eyes change?
Just wondering when everyone's DS/DD eyes changed, if they did....
Dominic has blue right now, I wonder if they will stay! I have brown, but my DH has bluish (blue but not bright blue) eyes, so there is a chance I guess.

Re: When did your DS/DD's eyes change?
does anyone in your family have blue?
The only way a baby can keep blue eyes is if both mom & dad have blue OR mom & Dad carry blue recessively from one of the grandparents.
My mom has blue, 1 SIL has blue so both DH and I carry the recessive (he is hazel, I'm brown both of which are dominant over blue)
and @ almost 10 months they have not changed....she's still blue eyed!

Re: When did your DS/DD's eyes change?
My son's changed to brown before he was 6 months old. His were very dark though, we knew they would be brown. My daughter is almost 6 months and her eyes are really blue! Daddy has blue eyes and I have brown. She's lucky! Pedi said theywould mjost likely stay blue because of how light blue they are. We'll see.

That's not true. Neither DH or I have blue eyes nor do any of our parents and our son has gorgeous bright blue eyes

then there are blue eyes somewhere in your genes. The ONLY way to have blue eyes is for the child to get both recessive from the parents.

Julia's eyes changed around 6 months, she was born with blue, then changed to green like mine, now they look like they are getting brown like Todd's. So who knows!

Re: When did your DS/DD's eyes change?
My son's changed around 9-10 months old. My doc for awhile thought his blue eyes were keepers - they were very blue at one point. but After 6=7 months - they got less blue and then eventually greener and then hazel. Now at 20 months they are mostly brown but still at times look hazel with green specs. I figure they still may get brown brown like DH and I have - but both our dad's have/had green eyes so I guess there is a shot they will stay a hazeley brown.

Re: When did your DS/DD's eyes change?
I'm curious if my son's eyes will change. Right now they are blue. DH has blue and I have green. But I had blue eyes when I was a baby and they changed to green, so who knows what will happen!

It's the Punit Square from HS biology.
Brown is always dominent over blue. If you have brown eyes you are either BB (brown-brown) or Bb (brown with blue recessive). Green is considered a form of brown (according to my DH- any scientists feel free to explain why cause I don't know.) If both parents have brown eyes and are Bb then the possible outcomes are:
BB; Bb; Bb; bb
so there would be a 25% chance of blue eyes. Brown eyed parents can only have a blue eyed child, if they both carry the recessive gene.
If both parents are bb (blue eyed) then there is a 100% chance of blue eyes.

This is so funny b/c I have always heard green and blue are almost the same gene and are considered more of the blue family then brown

I did a little research when I read this (mostly because I am a nerd ) and it seems that much has changed when we were in college bio. Scientists have now discovered that there are at least 3 different genes responsible for eye color and they speculate that there are several more. So the Punit square no longer works. Also brown, green and blue are their own distinct color - neither is really a variation of each except insofar as each darker one is just more pigmentation. And finally, it seems that eye color can theoretically change unitl the age of six. Which makes sense because I had blue eyes unitl age 3 and then they changed to green.
Now this is just what I found on several science journals and I am not a geneticist so I could be wrong - and since I don't feel like actually doing work I will keep researching!

I love this website they have lots of interesting info. You can even e-mail a genetecist!

See-- I didn't buy that green was a form of brown myself. When I have the energy, I'll have to play around myself and show DH.
I did play on the website that melijane posted. DH and I both have blue eyes and it seems that with that combination, you're still guaranteed blue eyes. I put in green eyes and brown eyes for our parents to see how that changed the results and it still didn't make a difference in the outcome. The outcome only changed from 100% when I changed one of us to brown or green.
