my mom keeps insisting that i give water to my 7 week old because she has hiccups. I refuse because i feel she is still to young. How old were your little ones when you started giving them water?

Re: water??
Jordana is 6 months old and I have never given her water.
When Jordana was first born my MIL was insisting I give her water. I spoke to my doctor about it and she said she didn't need any. Even when it got very hot this summer when Jordana was about 3 months, my doctor told me she just needed breastmilk (I nurse her).
I don't know if babies who get formula have different needs.
ETA: My doctor said they just don't need it. BM has water in it, and so does forumula. It just fills them up and doesn't offer any nutritional value.

Re: water??
When James was on different formula, the ped said I could give him an ounce of water in the am and an ounce in the pm because he was gassy and constipated, to try and loosen him up a little bit. This was when he was like a month old. Since he's changed formula, he doesn't really need it anymore.

Re: water??
All babies get hiccups, i think that's an old wives tale that water makes hiccups go away.
We give Gianna 1 ounce of water in her formula to keep her poo unformed and soft since she is prone to constipation. So a 5 ounce bottle for example will have 4 oz of formula and 1 ounce of water.
Other than that, when she was bf'd no water at all, she got all she needed from bm, the formula didn't agree with her as well.

Re: water??
I was told I can give a little for constipation or hiccups if I wanted to. My Dr. told me they don't like to give it on a regular basis b/c it may fill them up and then they may not drink their bottle.
