Re: helping DD learn to sit...
I was just doing this. We were in my bed and I just kept sitting him in the tripod position and let him balance it out. If he fell, he fell on the soft bed.
The bumbo doesn't teach them to sit. It just helps them.

Re: helping DD learn to sit...
I put DD in the middle of the boppy pillow on her tush, with the pillow surrounding her. She loves it, she gets to sit up, and she is supported. And yes I agree with the bumbo, too expensive and my DD has thunder thighs, she would be out of that thing so quickly!

Re: helping DD learn to sit...
The only thing I ever did was once she could hold her torso up I would let her sit with the boppy pillow holding her up. I borrowed a bumbo and didn't like it at all. She looked so uncomfortable and I guess I just felt like it was making her sit before she was ready.

This is what I do - and Ali will sit there for the longest time playing with her toys and watching tv I also have the bumbo seat ($32.99 in BJ's ) - but she like to lean to the side in it - so I rarely put her in there anymore

when i'm not around, where and how should she "sit"?
if i'm running around the house i usually have her in the bouncy seat, papasan, or swing. the swing she still seems content with, but the others she'll easily become frustrated
i'm going to buy a high chair and/or booster seat this weekend. should that help when we're in the kitchen?
that should help. DD likes to sit in the high chair with me while I'm in the kitchen. And she seems to like it more than when I used to take her bouncy seat and put it on the table in there. She likes the height and being upright.
