Help! Diaper Rash

Let me start by saying I realize that I'm lucky. Ellie will be 5 mos this week and this is the first one she's had. So we're not exactly sure what to do. I have Balmex but I've never used it. Her rash seems to be more in front than on her rear. I know I can put a diaper cream on her butt, but can I use it on her privates as well? or rather should I? She will be getting a bath tonight so we can get her clean and dry without it, but if it will help I'd like to use it. DH changed her a couple of minutes ago and when he used the wipes (which I will discontinue til she's better) she started wailing Chat Icon and he freaked (poor thing). TIA!

Yes, balmex can be used. Make sure the bath is nice & warm. She might not love to be in there. then again she might love it. Pat dry her when you take her out.

Here's hoping it goes away by morning!Chat Icon

Yep, lauren seems prone to diaper rash whereas Andrew has never had one! I use Triple paste and it works wonders!

Re: Help! Diaper Rash

The VERY BEST thing to use for diaper rash (front and back) is Triple Paste. They don't always have it at chain drug stores, but the smaller ones always have it. It is expensive, but it works MUCH better than any of the other creamas!

I am big fan of Triple paste nad balmex. Also, air time is the best.

Lay her on a mat with no diaper and just let the air hit it. That is the best.

You can coat her whole bottom with the creams... including her privates.

Re: Help! Diaper Rash

I've never used triple paste but have used Boudreaux's Butt Paste and it has also been highly recommended on here.

Emily had horrible diaper rashes when she was an infant (she had yeast rashes and we had to get nystatin cream prescribed by the doctor --- if she doens't clear up in 1-2 days with the triple paste then it might be a yeast rash and you should bring her to the pediatrician to confirm and for a prescription)....

anyway what I think really worked well was airing her out. I'd put her on our bed or the changing table with a big waterproof pad beneath her and would just take off her diaper and would actually fan her with the new clean fresh diaper for a few mintues. I think airing her out made the biggest difference.

Aquaphor is great, also you can mix plain vaseline with cornstarch and it works!

Re: Help! Diaper Rash

if it's up front make sure first it's not fungal (yeast) then you need a prescription for nystatin!

good question. I was wondering that myself when I was reading these responses. Maybe just time-sounds like if it doesn't clear up in a couple of days then it must be something more than diaper rash.
