Not napping
DD is 2 months and sleeps pretty good at night, but during the day she just hasn't been napping well at all. She is tired, but just doesn't stay asleep. Most of the time she naps in her swing because if I try to put her in her crib she screams (but she sleeps at night in there). Any suggestions? She becomes this over tired monster by the end of the day and I'm starting to go insane!
Help!

Have you tried belly sleeping for naps?

No, I didn't think that she was "allowed" to sleep on her stomach. I will try anything!! Please fill me in!

Re: Not napping
I hate to say this, but some babies just don't nap in the daytime! Noah is 9 months old and he only had 2 maybe 20 minute naps a day, and most likely those are when we are out and about in the pram. I am used to it now, and I know that he just fights it. He is tired for bed at 6, so he is in the tub at around 6.15/6.30. The only big pain in the arse for me, is that I never get a break in the day...but again, I am used to it.
My philosophy is that if the baby sleeps all night, don't worry about the not napping.
Oh yeah, I know quite a few other mommies on this board who have babies that don't nap!

Re: Not napping
I would nap her in the swing for now if that's the only way she'll nap...she's still young enough, try the crib again in a few weeks/months... I am still trying to get DD to nap in the crib and she is 7 1/2 months old so maybe you shouldn't listen to me actually

Does you DS get super cranky? I wouldn't mind if she didn't nap, but she gets so over tired and cranky that the entire day she is up and unhappy. That's the hardest part. I feel like I can't do anything because she is ******. Will she just grow out of it?

Re: Not napping
Let her nap in the swing at this point. Jack was a cat napper for ever and it was very frustrating, but I just had to accept that my kiddo wasn't going to take long naps everyday. As he got older it changed, but in the beginning, if he fell asleep in the swing, well that was great!
I also let Jack sleep on his stomach and compared to sleeping on his back, he did sleep longer. The belly sleeping is all about your level of comfort though. I was ok with it and it worked for Jack.

Yes, he does get SUPER cranky. He does have specific time when he needs a nap, and he does get moany, rubs his eyes, he shrieks, won't be held, won't be put down, he is squirmy, and he pinches me! But he can have like 10 minutes of sleep in my arms, and he is like a new kid!! So he just gets through it. We have 2 times like this, around 9 am and then again at around 4ish. If he doesn't have that 10 minutes at around 4, he is an OGRE until bedtime at 6.30...
I think I am beginning to believe that you have to train them to nap...I think I missed the boat!

Re: Not napping
This is my DS exactly and it is sooooo frustrating. I think at night they are just so tired they pass out - and don't care that its' in the crib. He is good in the morning I can usually get an hour or so out of him but the rest of the day is totally at random and lately 30 minutes at a clip, once or twice per day (def. not enough) and never in his crib. he is a cranky tired monster by the end of the day too, my ped. suggested putting him to bed earllier (she said 7-7:30 but I'm starting at 8 and seeing how that goes) and this might help him nap better. she also said around 3-4 months they will start to "get it" and nap longer...I hope so, I spend the entire day trying to get him to sleep since I can see he's so tired. I go back to work in 2 weeks, I think we're gonna have to CIO for naps, I don't know what else to do. I feel your pain I hope it gets better for us both!!

Re: Not napping
I never napped...EVER. My poor mom!!!! Some babies just won't...my best piece of advice is let her be her on this one. BUT in the morning, don't let her "sleep in" to make up for it....wake her up at the same time and make her go to bed at the same time for the night...maybe even TRY to keep her up an hour longer...it just might trigger a nap. If not, return to the regular bedtime and just know that some babies just won't nap...yes, they still get tired, but they'll be fine!
