He's figured out the doorknobs!
Its 5am and I feel something touching me...I roll over...there he is, Jack, standing at the edge of my bed! So after two hours of putting him back in bed only for him to hop out and come out of his room I realized I need to do something. So, do those doorknob covers really work or are they easy to figure out?
I debating between getting those or just putting a little hook and eye lock on the outside of his door. HELP! I can't take another day of getting up at 5 am!!

You would really lock him in his room? I would imagine that could be traumatic for him if he woke up and realized he was stuck in there. I would maybe lock your door so that he can't just barge in on you?
Good luck!

Re: He's figured out the doorknobs!
it could be tramatic i understand that point but you also dont want a 2 yr old getting out of his room and wondering around the house at like 5 am theres too many dangerous things they could get into thats why i would lock them in. my mom did it to me and my brother because we lives on an airforce base and my brother at 2 1/2 would let himself out of the house at 3 am and sit in the backyard

Re: He's figured out the doorknobs!
My son figured out door knobs a long tme ago because we have the lever type ones, so easy to use!
We bought a $15 gate at Home Depot and put it in his door frame. His door still opens and closes, but he can't get out of his room.

Re: He's figured out the doorknobs!
We had the doorknob covers until just recently, my DD was 2 in July and in the past few weeks figured out how to pry them off the door!
They did work well for a while though, GOOD LUCK!!

I personally would never lock a kid in the room. You never know what can happen. I would probably go with the gate at his door.

Re: He's figured out the doorknobs!
I use the doorknob covers throughout my house! I think the only door that doesn't have one is the boys' bedroom. I even put one on their closet after Sean "locked" Kevin in there. My guests always complain when they're trying to get into the bathroom, so they must work!

That's a great idea. I still have Andrew in his crib, so I will remember that when he's a free 'man'!

Re: He's figured out the doorknobs!
For the longest time, he couldn't open his door and never got angry about not being able to get out. He would knock on the door and I'd know to let him out. We've tried to gate at the doorway and he climbed over it like a little monkey! For us, he is much safer in his room then wandering the house at all hours of the morning.

I love this idea. We're definitely doing this when the time comes

I don't have this issue yet but one of the gates we have is about 4 feet tall and has bars so it wouldn't be easy to climb. May be an option for you

Re: He's figured out the doorknobs!
Aidan has been able to open door knobs since he could reach them (very early -he's Tall), and climbing over gates shortly thereafter (tried the gate in door thing and he loved slamming the door )
So we have used those door handle covers for as long as I can remember and yes, he is locked in his room.
He is not traumatized. He calls me, I let him out.
They work pretty good, now that he's 2 1/2 though there have been two times he's gotten it open but I think part of it was just luck and he doesn't realize what he did he came right to me both times. I don't think they will work for much longer though.
I absolutely do not want him wandering the house if I do not hear him. So this is whats worked in our house.

I am dreading the day Christopher figures doorknobs out. He tries now, but he's not tall enough yet.
