As a general rule, brown blood is old blood and is nothing to worry about. If the blood turns red or you pass any clots, then you should call the DR. again.

I spotted my entire first trimester. Apparently that was "normal" for me. As long as its not bright red, getting heavy or accompanied by painful cramps you should be ok.

Good luck and congrats!Chat Icon

I had A LOT of brownish spotting at about 5wks and turned out to be nothing....if its brown and you're not cramping I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I had brown spotting in the early weeks. It's totally normal according to my dr. and the books I've read.

First of all Congrats! Chat Icon

Brown or pink spotting is normal & can be many things.
It could be implantation bleeding, old blood or a variety of other things that are NOT detrimental to your baby's health.
I have been spotting on & off brown & pink for over a week & my sono & Betas came back normal. The dr thinks I ruptured a cyst, which is also not uncommon.

If you feel nervous, ask for a blood test

I agree with the other posters that brown spotting CAN be normal and often times is nothing to worry about. That being said, I think you should press your doctor to be seen. Whenever there is spotting most doctors will see you sooner because it can be many things. I am not trying to scare you and I want you to know that most times it is nothing but spotting should ALWAYS be checked out. It is very common to spot but it is not within the "normal".

Good luckChat Icon Chat Icon

p.s. I don't mean to be preachy I just think we should demand more of our doctors.

Agreed as well. Dr's are so used to saying-thats fine, wait for your appointment and women saying Ok sir whatever you say sir(or maam) but if you tell him I don't feel comfortable i want a beta test to make sure my numbers are rising appropriately-he will let you come in.

Chat Icon THANK you all so very much for your words. i feel much more reassured by everyone's advice and more inclined to go ahead and insist on just having a test to calm my own nerves. it is good to know that i am not the only one who has had this. again, thank you. i don't know what i'd do without this site sometimes Chat Icon
