The worst was seeing a FB friends status after the verdict...it said "disgusting!!".
Are there really people who think that this man getting convicted today is disgusting?!? What?!?
Today was a start- but man oh man, this is not enough to heal this nation. There is so much more to do.

Did they say anything else or explain themselves?

I wouldn’t unfriend as the poster below says to do but I would want to know why they said that as I can’t imagine anyone thinking the cop was innocent in what he did.

For me, FB is a place for fun, sharing news with friends, things like.
I had to unfriend several people yesterday for things they said about the outcome of the trial. I was disgusted by the vile things they said (and they truly believe this cop was innocent) . They were people I don't normally communicate with, just fringe acquaintances- so good riddance to them.

I’d unfriend. You can tell a lot about peoples character and where their heart is in response to this…

I keep putting on Fox news, and they keep going to different cities and saying there are protests. people are simply in the street. They are basically foaming at the mouth hoping for some sort of riot… But there isn’t (and hopefully there won’t be).

sadly, there is one person in my circle who continues to say that george floyd only died because he was a junky and had drugs in his system.

luckily, i only have to see this person in those few-and-far-between family functions that are so well attended that you can only share a two-minute conversation with them... if that. i believe this person will only get a smile and a not from me at these events from now on.

I read a few times how this is a scary time to be an officer, pray for them, or how no one will want to be a cop now.

If accountability for being a sh*tty murderous cop turns off a person from applying to the police force .. then I don’t see that as bad. Stay away.

It seems a lot of things are out of cops hands now and it is more of a concern of the ****** people out there in the world who are against the cops.

Many have retired in the past year that I know and I don’t blame them.

I think it's really strange for anyone to post anything political or controversial on Facebook. That's why I prefer instagram. It's mostly just pictures and it's light... People get so crazy on facebook and for what? If you think your post on FB is changing ANYONE's mind then you need a serious reality check. It makes me wonder about their sanity.

However, I don't see how anyone wants to become a cop now. Not because of the outcome of this trial but of the general hatred towards the police force that I see all around me. Wanting police reform is one thing, but there is genuine hatred for police in some groups right now.

GUILTY ON ALL THREE CHARGES

To answer the question, "disgusting!" was all this person said. However, I know exactly what she meant. In the past she has said George Floyd was a derelict of society who got what he deserved. She also openly posts on FB her hatred for immigrants and that she lies on the school health form if one of her children is sick. Luckily I only know her through a former job and have had no contact with her for about 15 years. But still upsetting. I unfriended her.

I think people just want more accountability, to show that police aren’t above the laws that they enforce. This ruling for Chauvin was very rare. I think the first in the history of the state. People also wish the good cops (who definitely do exist) would speak out openly and condemn the bad. That rarely seems to happen. I hope more people of color join law enforcement. I think that is one way to help matters in the future.

Officers shouldn’t have to bear the burden of civil matters, health emergencies, and mental health issues. They need more resources available to them to lighten their load and make it safer for them.

That’s not what turns them away. They are in a horrible situation. Last night CNN interviewed a former police chief and he said this officer was in a lose lose situation with the recent knife toting teen. If he didn’t shoot her he would have “let” a poc die by not stepping in. If he shot then he “killed” a poc with excessive force. Meanwhile he states a taser may not have been effective bc of distance and both prongs of the taser need to hit the subject or it doesn’t work and she was wearing a thick sweatshirt. So he had seconds from when he pulled up to make a decision. He was in a lose lose situation and idiots like Lebron James are telling people to go after him. These officers can’t do their job without worrying about destroying their own lives. It’s not fair to them and I wouldn’t want that job. Who would??

And for the record, I agree with the guilty verdict. He definitely used excessive force. But the every day officers with families who are just trying to do their job don’t deserve to be under the same umbrella

I agree - why would you take a job where in many places the government, who you report to, doesn't support you, there is a high risk of death or injury, and a lot of the public views you as a racist killer even if you haven't done anything wrong - doesn't sound like an appealing job to me.

I just think changing things can help the good. By ignoring real problems, things don’t get solved. Like the me too movement. Here is an issue that happens way more than it should. Yes, not all men are bad. But let’s address this issue and confront it and change it. That then protects the good.

The other issue is that it seems a lot of these scenarios involve police who have a history of excessive force or many complaints. Derek Chauvin had 18 complaints. I think if police departments get rid of the bad apples before it gets to this, it will help matters greatly.

I hope he gets heat about this. It is getting tiring listening to all these privileged celebrities and sports stars, no matter their color.

That’s what I don’t understand. How are you able to keep a job with that many complaints?? That needs to change.
