do you reuse formula???

If your DC eats a little from the bottle, do you put it back in the fridge or do you throw it out? If there is only an oz left i throw it out but if she only ate a little and there is 2-3 oz in there I hate to waste it! I have been putting it back in the fridge and have not had a problem but i am wondering what you guys do.

No! you need to throw it away.
Once the saliva is in the teat it immediately starts breaking down the molecules of the formula and its no good.

If you want to see this in action, put a used spoon into a jar of baby food and put it back into the fridge, when you go to take the baby food out again, it will have a gross puddle of broken down mushy liquid in it. Thats what starts to happen with the formula...

I am not like a neat freak by any means whatsoever, but from seeing baby food broken down like that, I would NEVER reuse formula!!!

I do not reuse formula. The Dr told me that after it is heated, it can stay for 2 hours and than after that discard it.

oh thats all I needed to hear!!!! I will prepare a smaller bottle and just add to it as needed. so once they drink from it, after the hour of it being out you chuck it?

my ped said we could reuse the formula if we put it back in the fridge and use it at the next feeding.

since hannah is on elecare which is soooooooo expensive, we had been reusing the formula without incident BUT...

now that it is covered by insurance, we throw out the unused portion, usually an oz or so.

I've been reusing it for about 3 months now. I was just tired of wasting it. If she only drank a little I would put it in the fridg and give it to her the next time she wanted it. I definitelyw ouldn't do this in the beginning though. Their tummies are so sensitive then and they are just building resistance to things.

if it's within the 1 hr of her starting it, of course.

sometimes I'll go over that 1 hr mark, but not by much. Their saliva gets into the bottle and starts to break down the formula.

Re: do you reuse formula???

At 40 bucks a can, I reuse it. She hardly ever leaves anything, and if it's only like an ounce, I will chuck it, but for the most part, we never heat her formula, and it usually gets used within a two hour window, so I'm not worried.
