I didn't watch, but what are his plans for schools? I heard the rumor is he is looking to shut down because he wants to get ahead of it this time. We are in DOE and my kids haven't even made it into school yet (tomorrow is supposedly their first day in person).

He says he will shut schools in areas experiencing outbreaks if necessary. I am concerned as I'm in a county with a large outbreak (even though our towns numbers aren't horrible - a few zip codes are).

He's virtually meeting with religious leaders today to discuss the importance of masking and social distancing and depending on local leaders to enforce guidelines.

Which is what he should be doing because these clusters are going to spread and take us all down.

I don't get it. Maybe because I am not religious enough but WHY would any religious leader want to subject their people to large gatherings?? I don't get it. Neither churches nor synagogues have yet to resume as normal so why would anyone think it's okay to congregate that many people, without masks and social distancing, for a religious service during a pandemic? Are they trying to be compared to a mid-west Trump rally? WTF

Yes! It is concerning that areas have 13% positivity rate. It sucks that schools will need to close but we can’t have this thing spreading out of control AGAIN. It can happen in NY if things aren’t done to keep it under control.

There are two zip codes in my county at 30% and 25% respectively...

They don't care, they never did - they had large gatherings back in March and April as well and kept many of their schools open. They had a huge measles outbreak last year as well.

The one promising thing though is that with these large clusters, COVID hospitalizations are very low.

I just will be mad if the metrics in the areas where most children attend private schools will cause the county/regions public schools to shut down because I know the many of the private schools will remain open even if they aren't supposed to.

Absolutely. I question whether or not the orthodox population even knows there’s a pandemic. They have no link to the secular world. They attend school for just a few years and most are never taught to read or write in English. Girls are often not taught to read or write at all.

The leaders need to be blamed. The adherents don’t know any better. No tv, computers, newspapers. The rabbi makes the rules and the rest follow because they don’t know any different. I don’t know the stats on deaths but they must be dying in droves given the close quarters they tend to live in. It’s sick and sad.

It’s unfortunate because those of the Hascidic population here don’t have understanding of social norms so social distancing isn’t a thing for them. When I go to the retail stores the women have no regards for personal space. If they want to shop on the rack you are at they will just stand right next to you and reach right in front of you. Many don’t know English so will not respond or aknowledge if you speak to them. Its so odd.
