My friend does; south of Atlantic Ave. (which is more preferable).

South of Atlantic there can be flooding concerns.
The nicer areas are in the northwest part of town in the State streets, between Merrick Road and Atlantic on the southwest side (close to the baldwin border) and generally south of Atlantic.
ETA: That utilities like electric, water and gas are very well priced!

What can you tell me about Freeport?
Freeport doesn't have the best reputation. That said, all towns have the pros and cons. My cousin use to teach at Freeport HS, she quit because she could not deal with environment (i.e., gangs, drugs, violence, threats made against her and her family). That said, she acknowledge the majority of the students were good and came from nice families, but there were enough serious incidents from "bad seeds" that drove her to an early retirement.
Agree closer to Baldwin and South of Atlantic are nicer parts. I will say, sort of related, Atlantic avenue is crazy in terms of driving. People speed down that road as if it's a highway
