I hate cable TV
I am so sick of the optimum vs fios game. I have optimum triple play w two TVs and a silver plan and pay $188 now. A few months ago I got it down to $141 and 1.5mos later it popped to $188 when it had been $181.
Fios is quoting me $175 for the same thing. This is my largest bill besides the mortgage and car. It’s infuriating to me.
I work full time. Basically fall asleep watching TV and mostly watch Netflix and amazon prime which I have.
How do you all cut cable but still watch TV like bravo or nick jr and kids channels? Is it a PITA? Do I need a jail broken fire stick?

We pay $50/month for high speed internet from optimum. Then we pay for YouTube TV - I think it's like $40/month.
First, we did HULU live TV which was fine, but I think they increased the price, so my husband decided to move over to You Tube TV. One thing that is nice is you can easily move between providers if something changes. You don't to change boxes or deal with contracts. Just Hulu increased it's price, so we canceled it, and signed up for YouTube - done in a few minutes.
We stream it on a Roku, but if you have a smart tv then you can probably do it directly on there. We already had the Roku for Netflix, Hulu, etc. and like it, so we use that to stream everything.

I have Roku too. What is YouTube tv? Is it like watching YouTube on the internet? If I watch my trashy bravo reality tv show is it available at the same normal time?

This is half (or less) of what people I know were quoted or are paying for just internet. I don't understand how they just seem to make up numbers and charge everybody differently.
I pay $190 for one box, no DVR, no premium channels. I just called to try to see if I could get anywhere and they basically said the only thing I could do is buy myself a modem to save that rental fee.

We cut out cable almost three years ago and we don’t miss it. We have Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and the WWE Network (DS is a huge fan). We pay for internet only and save about $100 from what we used to pay.

We haven’t had cable in 6 years.
I borrow Disney and Nick Jr videos from the library. I do the same for series I like and binge watch them.
We have Netflix and Amazon Prine for streaming.

Got rid of cable long ago. We pay $70/month for high speed internet and phone, $34 for Hulu with live tv, $10 for Netflix. We also have amazon prime
That’s still $114 a month but we only do the Hulu live during basketball season and then we go back to the $7.99 plan. I could honestly live without Netflix either. I feel like there is so much on amazon prime and Hulu but I keep Netflix for the kids. I love not having the bulky cable boxes around and not having to worry if there is a cable line installed near where I wanna put the tv...

Re: I hate cable TV
We got rid of cable a couple of weeks ago and it's very liberating! We don't miss it.
We've just been using Hulu+Live TV streaming and it's great. I HATED Hulu for the first couple of days...I missed just turning on the TV and flipping through the channels. It took some getting used to but now we love it and wouldn't ever go back to cable.

Re: I hate cable TV
I can’t cut the cord. I’m too much of a TV junkie to do so. I pay a million dollars (well, it may as well be) to optimum, have Netflix and Hulu
I save money elsewhere with couponing and bulk food shopping. I guess I can say it’s my splurge. Some people spend a lot of money on designer fashion - I dont. it evens out
If you’re a TV watcher - Way out your pros and cons before making a move.

Re: I hate cable TV
I just called cable yesterday hoping to get the triple play rate or close to it. No dice. I've been paying full price for a long time and not really paying attention to the increases. My total bill now was up to $280 with all the extra charges and taxes. They wouldn't give the triple play rate, but I dropped some of the channels and got some credits. I might drop some more and maybe turn in one of the boxes we have and look at our DVR option. I have to check FIOS for pricing too.
ETA - when I asked about dropping just to internet, they quoted $87.

We cancelled a few months ago and never looked back! I have amazon TV through prime, Netflix, and Hulu. I also have an unlocked fire stick and we stream from Kodi (not good I know) but I was paying 209 a month with optimum for basic cable and internet. We now pay $70 for internet a month and that’s jt

That is such BS I pay $76/month for the 100mps internet and home phone. When I tried to drop the phone they told me it was gonna be more expensive, and they would give me that double play for a year. Keep calling till u get someone better. Tell them you will cancel and go with Verizon

You can’t just tell them you will cancel in my experience. You have to actually call to cancel. We were all ready to switch to Verizon. Actually scheduled installation and when I called to end my service they finally did something with my price. Meanwhile I had called several times asking if they could do anything and they kept saying no

I have a question: if you still have Optimum for Internet and phone, but not cable, can you still use the optimum app on your ipad or smart tv to watch 2, 4, 5, 7, 11, 12?
