Turning yellow gold into white gold?
My SO was given his grandmother's engagement ring and mother's wedding ring as a gift for when it's time for us. His grandmother is deceased and his mom is a widow. His mom would love us to use the rings any way we or I want, whether it's melted down and designed any way we want, or however we choose. While I feel very honored, yellow gold is really not my style anymore and wonder is it possible to melt it down and then design it and then turn to white gold? I know white gold is not really "white", it's just yellow gold dipped to make it look white but is this something that is possible with existing jewelry? Sorry for the confusion, we're supposed to go to a jeweler tomorrow and come up with something but just wonder before we go if anyone had insight.

I believe you can have the yellow gold dipped to make it whi the gold. Not sure but I feel like people have done that

They can dip it to turn it white. But it may not last very long. My husband had a yellow gold ring dipped to white and it was off after a month. It may have been who he used but that's what happened to us.

They will dip it, its easy. You may have to get it done every few years depending on how much you wear it.

They can dip it but it may not last long. My DH's wedding ring was white gold with yellow gold edges and now it is just all yellow gold.

Re: Turning yellow gold into white gold?
Yes it wears off quickly. You shouldn't wear it to swim, to use household cleaners, or to do anything where it will get banged around a lot, to make it last longer

Yup- it's a rhodium dip, I believe.
ETA: I had it done maybe every 2 years for a ring I wore daily.

Re: Turning yellow gold into white gold?
It’s rhodium. My grandfather was a jeweler and I had some of my grandmother’s old pieces dipped. Just so you know, it will change back to yellow more quickly in areas where it rubs against another piece, such as a wedding band. Your better bet may be to remove the diamond and buy a new setting. You can have one made custom or buy a really nice semi-mount.
