Re: Kitchen pantry size

Always go bigger if you can. My pantry is separate from my cabinets and it's 4 Ft wide by 22" deep Inside the 24" door and it can always be bigger lol

You can walk around Consumers to look at kitchen setups. I did that just to get the feel of what I wanted.

Here's a pic (Don't mind the unorganized pantry - I've been so busy getting this house back together that I've been just throwing stuff in there lol)

From left to right - the pantry itself. Looking at it from the front when open and then showing how it goes deeper left to right on the inside. The Pantry Opening itself is 24" - so the picture of the open door from the front is what a 24" pantry will be like

Thank you so much. This will be a pantry cabinet built in with refrigerator piece. I have room for both. Im worried 24 will not be enough and 30 too much and I would regret not going smaller and having extra counter.

Hmmmm It's 6" of space.

Things to consider:

Will that 6" of counter make as much of a difference as an additional 6" of storage?

What would you use that extra counter for?

Where in the kitchen is that counter and would it be an area you'd need to use daily?

Will you have an island or peninsula in the kitchen?

Since redoing our kitchen, I use only the island. Literally sdon't touch any other counter anymore. The other counters just hold appliances. For me, I like storage. It's my #1 goal in every project I do. I'm currently looking for simple end tables for my Living Room and I refuse to get anything without at least SOME storage

Re: Kitchen pantry size

An island wont work in mine so I am extending a penninsula 14 inches that is very small. With that extension and countertop overhang, I will gain counter there. The side where pantry will go is now refrigerator with a long strip of counter and upper and lower cabinets where I keep dishes, glasses and now I keep food. I keep blender, toaster oven on countertop. Im worried I will need more cabinet space for dishes and glasses. Trying to decide if that six inches shoukd go to pantry or storage for dishes and glasses. Im also hoping the pantry will hold everything so I dont have to use a cabinet for extra things. The pantry will be Im guessing from end of counter to wall depth.

Thanks so much for your help

You’re welcome :)

Compare the kitchen you have now to the kitchen you will be putting in. How many cabinets are used for pantry items and how many are used for dishes, etc. then go from there. If you’re using 24” of cabinet space for pantry items and it’s more than enough space, then go with 24” if you’re busting into other areas with canned goods, etc - you may need the bigger one. From what you are describing so far, you may be ok with the 24”. Especially if it’s not just counter space you are worried about but other storage as well. It’s 2-1. Counter space and regular storage space vs pantry size.

Best of luck with the Reno. Kitchens aren’t easy. I’ve done every room in my house - the kitchen was definitely the hardest

Thanks again. You are right, kitchen is the hardest. The bathrooms seem easy after seeing whats involved with kitchen. What you said makes sense. I use two big cabinets for food and two other big cabinets next to it for dishes and glases etc. I need to go to some showrooms that have a few pantrys to give me an idea.
