Laws against reusing car seats

A co worker told me it is NY state law that all infants must have a brand new car seat. I told her this is nonsense, I reused the same infant seat from my first child for my second. She insists this is lithe law but I can’t find any information on this. I am aware that you shouldn’t buy used car seats but I don’t think there is anything wrong with saving it for baby #2 (kids were born within 2 years of each other)

Well I'm about to give birth at any second and I plan on reusing DD's infant seat. It isn't expired or anything. Maybe she means you can't reuse expired car seats?? I hope the hospital doesn't give me a problem!

My kids are less than 2 years apart and I used the same seat. The hospital barely checked if my children were buckled in yet alone if the car seat wasn’t expired.
I never heard of this and financially it wouldn’t make sense to many people.

Laws against reusing car seats

My car seat was used by both of my kids and a niece, with a year to spare before expiration!

It's not a law.
Please there are barely any laws on carseats- just "recommendations". Like you can turn the seat around at 6 months if you want and it's not against the law.
How would they even prove that?
Nonsense

Yeah I’m using the same car seat- as long as it’s not expired it’s fine.

It’s actually a law now that they must stay rear facing until 2. And they are supposed to be in some sort of seat until 8.

I never heard of that law. I think you need a properly installed carseat to be able to leave the hospital with the newborn, but I dont know if that's a law or just a hospital rule. We our 1st child's carseat for our 2nd child. The carseat was 3.5 years old. We figured it was fine since we were within the 5 year expiration period and the carseat had never been in an accident.

It's about fuking time.
People still won't follow it.
I hope they really enforce it.
And booster seats should be next.
And kids in the front seat at 8 years old.

I am a car seat lunatic and if I had another kid I would reuse DD's carseat, no question. No way is that a law.

My husband works for Dept of Transportation. Says this law is BS and is to make money for the carseat companies. Just follow the dates for expiration and you are fine.
