Use Vinegar to kill germs ?

My mom tells me not to use bleach or bleach wipes around stuff that the kids will be touching, she said to use white vinegar/water (50:50 mix) instead.

Is that as good as bleach or alcohol as a germ killer?

White vinegar will clean some germs, but not as many as bleach. It's a safer alternative, but in bathrooms, for example, I still use bleach.

I wouldn't use it if anyone has had flu or stomach bug.

It will kills some things and it's great for mildew and musty smells.
Like if you leave wet towels in the washer for too long and they get that smell, or clothes that have been in a musty closet- adding it to the wash will get that smell right out.

But for hard core germs- you need bleach.

I use a vinegar and water mix for general cleaning and add a few drops of tea tree oil which is antiseptic or whatever. I use store bought antibacterial spray for bathrooms and any raw meat/egg in the kitchen. I think hydrogen peroxide is another option you can look into.

I only use it in my microwave, not a fan of the smell of vinegar.

Yes, they sell a hydrogen peroxide cleaner that is awesome.
It' kills germs, and no harsh bleach fumes.
