Is there such thing as affordable health insurance?
I hate my job. Loathe it entirely. The problem is the health insurance is cheap. If I leave my job it’s almost 1000 per month through DH. Are there any plans through the state that are reasonable through the state? I am constantly on the edge of quitting at this point I think the jobs Stress is seriously taking a toll on my mental and physical health.

Not sure what’s out there that’s affordable for adults but kids can get Child Health Plus. Try looking at Oscar.com for adult rates.

Re: Is there such thing as affordable health insurance?
I have the bronze plan under Oscar. I pay under $500 per month but I have a $4K deductible. You can get a lower deductible but will have a higher premium. I don't use it much so I choose the higher deductible option.
I like the app they have. You can talk to a dr for free. I did this a few months ago when I thought I had the flu. I requested a call through the app and a dr called within an hour. He called a script into the pharmacy and I had meds within an hour. No charge for the call. No deductible. Just the cost of the meds.
This is my 2nd year with it and I don't have any complaints.

I had heath insurance through NYS for a couple of years “affordable” is still expensive- I was paying over $900 for myself and DH with a tax credit and my daughter had child health plus for $45 a month. Thankfully I now have a job that subsidizes 78% of the cost and I pay around $360 a month for a family plan.

No
Honestly it’s depends on your income. If you quit your job, do you plan on working again? A 1 income home may have a better shot at finding something that won’t bankrupt you.
We pay very close to $1,800 a month for DH and I. Ded is only $250 but in the event of a hospital stay, it’s $1,500 each admittance. $40 PCP $60 specialist $75 urgent care
Our last insurance had $1,000 ded each and was the same price. But had $500 for hospital admittance
We both have an income that is above the level where you can qualify for any tax credit , etc.
Highway robbery. If you can stand it, stay. If not, look for something else w insurance. It’s no picnic

There aren't many affordable options.
I know this is a dumb question especially since employer provided insurance is getting worse and worse, but any chance you would be able to leave your job and potentially find something with better insurance?

Open enrollment deadline date is January 31st. If you leave your place of employment after this date you will qualify for a special enrollment period. I would take the next several days to shop the marketplace, compare plans and rates. This will provide a basis for help you decide how to proceed.
Cobra is another option but don't know if they will share coverage info and rates if you are still employed.

Not likely. It’s a government job and I only pay about 250 for the whole month for family coverage. I just can’t stand it. I am looking for another job though

I had Oscar as well. Although I was happy with the plan, coverage (like all others from the exchange) is only in the state of NY. My monthly increased $115 a month in 2019. I opted not to renew.

This happened to someone else I know. Somehow mine went down $5! Dont know what I would've done if it increased that much. I went with them when my Empire plan increased 40%! I dont know how they expect people to pay these prices.

It’s gross. My old job was like $45 years ago like 5-6 years ago for amazing insurance. It became horrible insurance at $600 a month. My husband and I over the last 3 years have both become state employees with the NYSHIP plan. Luckily NYSHIP is NYSHIP no matter where you work. Where I am NYSHIP is $500 a month and my husband $90 a month. If I had to I would still pay the $500 for the NYSHIP because we pay for nothing minimal copays and everything is always covered at 100% so far

The only plan I had better than my brand new federal employee insurance was NYSHIP. NY state employees get amazing coverage. Low deductibles and almost all providers accept it.

Nassau Suffolk Hospital council in Suffolk or The health and welfare council might be able to help you find a plan

There may be some plans cheaper than what your DH has but you have to compare deductibles and limits - the $1k plan may end up being cheaper than an individual medical plan and may cover more. It also may give you access to more doctors and specialists.

Re: Is there such thing as affordable health insurance?
The only plans reasonably priced will be on the NYS exchange and have high deductibles. If you some money in savings, it might not be a bad way to go.
Depending on your income, look into Child Health Plus. It provides great coverage for kids with no co-pays.
