Anyone take Collagen Protein?
Do you notice any positive effects? What do you use it for?
DH takes it as a clean form of protein for his diet, but I was wondering if anyone used it for joints, hair, skin or nails, cellulite etc?
My nails are awful lately. So soft and peeling. My hair could always use help so that's neither here nor there . But the main thing is my knees. I know I'm on my way to issues. They creak and crack when I bend and get up. They ache going up and down stairs. They are stiff. I was reading about how collagen can help support joints and cartilage.
I had looked into it in the past and what turned me off to trying it was some studies that say your body just breaks it down and uses it as protein like any other protein- and that the collagen never really reaches where it's needed to have any effect. So I was sure if it was all just hype
Just curious if anyone took it daily and what effects, if any, they have seen?

Anyone take Collagen Protein?
I bought Traders Joes and put it in my morning coffee. I didn't notice any changes in my joints, skin, nails or hair, so i never bought it again.

Yeah that's what I am thinking. I feel like it's all BS. I mean it's good protein, but that thing I read mentioned that your body just uses it as it would any other protein and it doesn't help you produce more collagen of your own.
i might try it for a month or so since DH has it in the house anyway to see if I notice any difference but to be honest, I'm skeptical.

For nails, take biotin. 1,000 a day should do it. I take it and my nails are definitely stronger.
For joints take Glucosamine & Chondroitin. DH swears by this for his stiff hip joint. I saw an ad for Shiff Move Free recently. It has a few more things in there for joints

Anyone take Collagen Protein?
My friend tried and she said she didn’t notice any difference so she stopped taking it. I take biotin vitamins for my hair, skin and nails.

If the biotin made absolutely no difference. Maybe get some bloodwork done to check what you may be deficient in
Also low or high thyroid can cause nail issues

yes i probably need to. I'm a mess. And i eat like shit so that doesn't help. I know how i SHOULD eat but can't bring myself to eat healthy because it's too depressing. I will eat a salad for lunch, then come home and eat a bag of Doritos for dinner to make up for my sad lunch lol
Some of my nails are fine and strong- others just wont' grow or will just peel back. It's very odd

Try buying Knox gelatin at the supermarket; mix it in your beverage. That should help your nails a lot.

If you’re not getting your nutrients through diet, you should definitely be taking supplements. Sometimes a multi isnt enough either
Go for a physical. Tell the dr your issues and they will run a bunch of blood to see what/if you are lacking anything

I agree. Go get a full workup done ao you know exactly what you’ll need to supplement instead of doing trial and error on your own.

yeah i know. I just hate going to the doctor. I'll do it eventually. I mean it's nothing earth shattering or life altering- my nails being soft is like really low on my priority list but yes, next time I go i will ask.

It’s not just your nails are soft - run to the dr. But as we get older, we need certain nutrients to help keep our bones strong and bodies working properly. Your nails can be giving you a hint. Just go! Take care of yourself.
