new foods because of your relationship
i was looking at my question about corned beef and cabbage and got to wondering...
what foods have you learned to cook or learned to eat solely because of your relationship with your spouse/SO?
i'm hispanic and didn't grow up eating a lot of "american" foods. since i've been with SO, i've learned to make:
* green bean casserole * pot roast * corned beef and cabbage * biscuits and gravy * brussel sprouts

new foods because of your relationship
When I met my spouse, I only knew how to make English Muffin pizzas! So anything I learned to cook after meeting him was because of the relationship.
But to seriously answer your question, I have learned to cook and eat more vegetarian foods because 2 of my children are. DH is also eating more vegetarian. It is very easy to cook and adapt to.

Re: new foods because of your relationship
I don’t really cook the full German specialties, but I have made a few things.
Potato Pancakes Spaetzle Pork tenderloin
I just bought a cookbook for food in this region, so I’m going to try bread dumplings next.
I just cannot compete with his mom and stepmom who do it really authentic.
I have tried a lot of new things because of him.
Different salamis Bosna (sausage at the Xmas markets in this region) Different stews and roasts Different sausages
ETA: I want to add I think he has tried much more different foods than I have. I got him to try Indian, Japanese, Ethiopian, Malaysian, Dim Sum (I love ethnic foods, and he hasn’t really tried any of them; it’s just strictly German or Italian food for him). I definitely have hooked him plenty of American food.

Re: new foods because of your relationship
My husband is Swiss, so I've had to learn to like Swiss food over the years. I am not an adventurous eater and don't care for things out of my comfort zone, but I have fallen in love with many Swiss dishes:
Rosti - a giant potato pancake with apples and onions and cheese
Fondue - naturally!
Flour soup - it's a strange concoction of burnt roux, beef broth and gruyere but it's delicious
Nusstorte - walnut cake
Alplermagronen - kind of a casserole, it's a layered dish with pasta, cheese, potatoes and then has a stewed apple topping
And lots and lots and lots and lots of meats and sausages and offal

I learned to cook lamb. Won't eat it.
DH has gotten to like a lot of German food. I have also gotten him to eat some Japanese foods, avocado, grilled octopus, and a whole lot of my baked goods. Still can't get him to eat brussel sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower.

Re: new foods because of your relationship
My husband has eaten different foods because of me.
He eats pierogies and golumkies (stuffed cabbage).
Although my mom's side was Italian they never ate Italian food. They were more steak and potato people.
So I have learned to make Italian food on my own. My husband will say it was just like his grandmas. Which is a huge compliment.

Re: new foods because of your relationship
Ugh, Turkey (gag gag gag). Dh loves it. I make him a small boneless breast once in a blue moon. And then I disinfect every inch of my kitchen. I despise turkey. I refuse to allow tunafish into my home though so the least I can do is make the turkey.

Re: new foods because of your relationship
I guess, technically, I eat a bunch of things because of DW... I eat basically anything.... She cooks basically everything.... and very well, too...
Therefore, I've been exposed to a lot more foods than when I was growing up.

Re: new foods because of your relationship
I think it was more the opposite for me. My MIL, may she rest in peace, was an awful cook. She would serve chicken and I would be waiting for a side and there wouldn't be one
My family is obsessed with artichokes, I had to teach DH to eat them. My family is italian and every family dinner is like 8 courses, I practically had to roll DH out the first time he ate at my moms.

Authentic Chinese food More items on the Chinese food menu
I do not usually eat meat on the bone, so seeing a whole chicken and whole fish was a little bit different.
I tend to eat food then ask what it is so I do not get a preconceived taste.
