Christmas dinner and question about what to bring

So my neighbour and I are both spending Xmas alone this year. We decided, hey, let’s get together and cook dinner (we both love cooking and went to a food fest the other week).

It’s going to be more or less traditional German.

For Xmas eve, she’s coming down to my apartment, and I’ll be making cheese fondue. For dipping I was going to use bread (duh!), apples, pears, and I’m going to do a meat platter. Then we plan on getting drunk, lol. I’ll have the wine.

For Xmas, I’ll go up to her apartment and she’s making goose, with red cabbage, and bread dumplings. I’m really excited to learn how to do this better. I am going to bring a bottle of wine.

For dessert, she was either going to make this pancake/crepe thing that is traditional here. I am going to make creme brulee.

But somehow, I feel like I’m not contributing enough. Do you think there is anything else I could do better? Or is that enough?

I’m just happy to spend Xmas with someone. I really thought I would be alone.

I would get some desserts for christmas eve. Small stuff to nibble on like cookies or brownies.

Make Chocolate Fondue for Christmas Eve! Get strawberries, pound cake, marshmallows, vanilla wafers.

Re: Christmas dinner and question about what to bring

Sounds like enough. Maybe bring two bottles of wine to Christmas day if you are big drinkers and feel like you aren't contributing enough. Or at least like one to drink together and one for her to drink on her own time, you know?

Also, I agree... cheese fondue xmas eve calls for a chocolate fondue for later in the night!! chocolate fondue with bananas, strawberries, oranges, marshmallows, anything... yum.
or cookies if thats too difficult. they can be german cookies. you need a little snack food after that.

Re: Christmas dinner and question about what to bring

She was kind of iffy about dessert on Xmas eve. So I’m just going to make Creme brûlée. I don’t really like chocolate, and I’ve never made chocolate fondue. Maybe I’ll pick up a nice box of chocolates just in case? Or maybe chocolate covered strawberries that I make? Cleaning the fondue pot after cheese is a real PITA.

I think what you are doing is plenty! I'm sure they are happy to just be able to be spend it with you then be by themselves.

Enjoy!

Sounds like an even division of labor to me! You are each taking charge of one holiday meal and you are contributing wine - the most important part of a holiday meal! lol - to both.

Maybe you can bring a simple appetizer or snack to munch on while you and your friend cook Christmas dinner?
