Leasing commuter car
Hey everyone I need a commuter car. I work in a school In bayside and park on the street. Literally wouldn’t use it around here other than running an errand or two cuz we have three kids and use our pathfinder otherwise. I’m really hoping to keep the monthly cost down , like 150
What kind of car is in that price point
I was thinking Altima but man times have changed and they’re all jacked up with technology etc and they’re so much more money
Are Sentras safe? Accords? Camrys?
Thanks for any suggestions

Not sure you would find anything in that price range. Definitely not a Honda or Camry. Try a stripped down Kia maybe. And you will need at least 12k miles

And accord or a Camry will be more. You should look at Corollas, Civics or Elantras but they would be most likely more than $150...

Re: Leasing commuter car
Hyundai Elantra. It would have to be a stripped down base model to get close to that price

A stripped down civic won’t even fit that $. I had one in 1996 and it was over 200 back then.

Re: Leasing commuter car
You are going to have to put a decent amount down to get $150 a month on any car. For a three year lease most cars have a 55-60% residual. At $150 an month you are spending $5400 for the lease. And at that residual with zero down you are only getting a 14-15k car for that. And that doesn’t include sales taxes and all the other fees that come with leases.
So just look for cars with MSRPs under 16k. Personally with that budget I’d buy used. Leases also may not work due to mileage driven. Look for a used Kia or Hyundai. The Kia Soul is a very underrated car if you can get past the look of it. I always said that would be my “commuter car” if I had to buy one.

I would also avoid Honda and Nissan. High theft cars especially if you are in queens.

Re: Leasing commuter car
What about buying certified pre-owned ? This way you don't have to worry about mileage, depending upon how far you have to drive every day.
Bayside street parking SUCKS. I live there, and thankfully I have a garage and an on site parking spot at my co-op.

When I looked at an accord it was like $500 a month. So that’s def out.
We were car shopping less than a year ago and nothing was nearly that cheap.

I agree with everyone else, you won't find anything that cheap to lease. I would buy a used car.

My sister leased a Mazda 4 years ago for about 165 a month? Or what about a Nissan Sentra?

Re: Leasing commuter car
I would not put anything down on a lease. Contact an auto broker. You provide parameters and they search and negotiate. I am working with one now that someone from this site recommended. FM if you want details.

I would download the Honcker app (I feel like I should be collecting a commission from them given how much I say this). Seems to be the best deals.

Re: Leasing commuter car
mybro just leased a ford ecosport using $4k down (he had a car to sell) his payments are under $200 per month
I don't know all the specific but the one he leased has all the bells and whistles too at that low price. May be worth looking into.
ETA: He lives and works in Brooklyn. It's small and fits into those tight parking spaces
