Kitchen sink fell out?

So Saturday night i was washing dishes and our sink fell out of our granite countertop. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have never heard of this happening before. Have you? We just put in the countertop 2 years ago.

We called the countertop place and they're giving us the run around. The manager won't call us back but the other guy is saying he can come fix it for $125. I'm sorry what??? this wasn't our fault. I feel they should fix it for free and ASAP!

They didn't use clips or brackets apparently. They use glue and some stone i guess to hold it together. So those pieces came down and our plumbing is now messed up. Clearly that was not a good method! I also don't want it to happen again!!!!

I'm guessing for them to have to use brackets or clips at this point, they'd have to remove the countertop to do so?

i'm furious. I don't even know what we should do at this point. Chat Icon

We have 3 kids at a home and no sink and therefore we can't use the dishwasher either since the pipe is all messed up.

Oh my gosh I am so sorry. I have never experienced this but it's just so wrong! They really should fix it with no charge, how messed up!

Re: Kitchen sink fell out?

I would call a different place for the fix because obviously they don’t know what they are doing !

Either have a different granite place come and do it or get a drop in sink at a big box store and DIY or have a contractor come

I swear .... I don’t know how some of these places stay in business. Dealing with a Reno now and I cannot believe how they just point the finger to anyone but them when there’s an issue.

The only problem is we are way out east so it would hundreds of dollars if not at least a thousand.

I totally get it. But I would be concerned that they would do whatever they did the first time and have this issue again.

Maybe do a little online research yourself about the best way to mount an undermount sink and then ask him to please use that method to put it back on. If he gives you grief and tells you no - kick him out of the house

Re: Kitchen sink fell out?

It just needs to be re-siliconed.
If you can't do it yourself, a handyman can do it. No need for the granite people to come back or to spend a ton.
A handyman can probably install it with clips as well.
I don't think you have to remove the granite.

Re: Kitchen sink fell out?

If your pipes are destroyed, you will need a plumber to come out to fix the pipes. The sink can be reattached with silicone and the same pieces of granite used to attach it in the first place. Are you leaning on the sink a lot? Do you use items that can eat away at the silicone? You should be able to fix this with a plumber and a handyman or just a good plumber.

Get written estimates from reputable companies and take the original co. to small claims court. Take plenty of pictures and make this their problem.

Re: Kitchen sink fell out?

Same thing happened to my parents sink and few years ago. Christmas Eve, lots of platters and dishes to wash, sink full of soapy water and BAM, the entire sink bottomed out . Although it was quite a shock, we all had a good laugh and it has created a great Christmas Eve memory.

As others have mentioned, re-silicone.

ETA: I don't mean to make light of your situation as you expressed how upset you are. Should be and hope it will be an easy fix.

Kitchen sink fell out?

Use a Hercules support wire kit and silicone. You tube it. So easy.

My guess is the warranty period for the contractor was a year. So they don’t have to come back and most Sinks are silicones in so unless they did something else wrong on the install they won’t come back for free

Re: Kitchen sink fell out?

They'll just claim that you had too much weight in the sink, and that's why it fell. I seriously doubt you'll be able to take them to court, especially since it was OK for 2 years.

Re: Kitchen sink fell out?

Update:
So we have yet to speak to the manager and finally gave in and had them come out to fix it for $125.

Well now we’re pissed. Chat Icon my husband had taken some 2x2’s to hold up the sink so he could fix the pipe and we could run the dishwasher. WELL they took those and screwed them into our cabinets to hold up the sink (in addition to putting on glue).

I really don’t know what to do now. My husband refused to pay them.
