In the spirit of Halloween
Amityville house - haunted or not? What do you think?
I must say, I'm way more fascinated about the crimes that took place in that house than the ghost stories.

In the spirit of Halloween
I used to live 4 houses away from that house. Walked my dog past it every day. Definitely don't think it's haunted

In the spirit of Halloween
Don’t really think it’s haunted BUT I could never live there myself.

Re: In the spirit of Halloween
I don't know if it's haunted but based on the history of the house, I'd never want to live in it.

In the spirit of Halloween
I must be the only person who really does not know what happened there.
That being said, I wouldn’t want to live in a house with a bad past.

Re: In the spirit of Halloween
I believe in spirits/ghosts and I think if you believe in that, then you'll think the house is definitely haunted in some way, shape or form.
I don't believe the Lutz family's accounts of what happened that inspired the movies, however.

I man went out to a bar, then came home and shot his parents and siblings.
Then the Lutz family who moved in afterwards said the house was haunted - which is where the movie stems from. People who believe it is haunted wonder if that is the reason the brother killed his family.
I believe the Lutz family just picked up and left. So I think there is some truth.

My family has lived in Amityville for over 50 years; the DeFeo family moved into the house from Brooklyn. Ronald DeFeo was (most likely) an undiagnosed schizophrenic and was heavily into drugs and alcohol. He believed the house was talking to him and hallucinating paranormal activity, and believed the house was "telling him" to kill his family. So one night after going down to a local bar and doing drugs, he went home and shot his entire family in their sleep. After the murders the house was sold to the Lutz family, who claimed the house was haunted and experienced supernatural occurrences, which inspired the movie series.

Thank you both! I’ve seen the house (grew up in Massapequa), but I really never knew the story, and I’ve never seen the movie.

In the spirit of Halloween
Haven't there been a few families who have lived in the house since the Lutz family moved out? I feel like they have always been interviewed, and they always say nothing ever happened to them there.
