I think this is pretty typical, and has happened to be many times over the years. I’m not ever comfortable with it and would never do the same, but I usually just end up sucking it up. If you don’t want to though, I’d just text back and say that she sounds busy, so another day may be better and then never invite her again. I imagine it’s bc she doesn’t want to sit at a play date, so she made up an excuse.

Driving people's kids around at that age is not something I'm comfortable with....unless they're family or close friends.

A simple "I'm sorry I'm not able to bring him home today. If it's going to be too hectic for you, we can always reschedule for another day" is more than enough.
