Heater
Sorry new home owner here. Now with this weather, do you leave the heater on all day or set it at a certain temperature? We both work in the city but my MIL stays with us 4 days a week to help with the kids when they get home from school.

Re: Heater
I always let the thermostat decide what needs to be running. In the summer, in "cool" mode, I just set the temp, or set the schedule for various times, and let the thermostat decide if the AC needs to run. Now, it's in "heat" mode, and again, the thermostat is programmed for a certain temp, and it decides if the heater is needed. If nobody is home during the day, you can adjust the thermostat to a cooler (or warmer in the summer) temp to not run the heat as much, and have it more comfortable a little bit before you get home.

Re: Heater
We turn the heat down during the day when we're at work. If it were up to DH it would be completely off, but our dog is home and she still should be warm! We put it at about 60 and then turn it up when we get in.

this is what i do.
i used to program it for work/school hours when no one was home. now that i live in a situation where someone is always home, i just don't bother with that part of the program.

Re: Heater
Just get a programmable thermostat. I have the heat down all day when we're at work, but it's set to come on about an hour before the babysitter gets home with the kids so they aren't walking into an ice box.
