Dense Breasts
So I've been getting my regular mammograms for a few years now. Since my OB sees I have very dense breasts from the results he wanted me to go in for a 3D mammo. I did this last Friday. I guess there's a lot of dense tissue on my right one from the results and he wants me to go back and get another exam. Now I never saw the script. He sent it straight to the Breast Center where I am going back next week. I'm not really concerned or anything bc I don't want to think about it yet and it could be nothing. Just hard to tell from the mammo. This is the first time I did the 3D as well so it could be a change from that. Who knows? I was told to come in a half hour before and then the testing is an hour and then they'll talk to me after. I have no clue what they're doing. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Anyone else have something like this done? Thanks

Re: Dense Breasts
I had similar experience, I have dense breasts and was told to do the 3D mammo, it took less than 15 min - same machine and all . They also sent me for sono to see more, I have cysts, but some stuff they can't see on reg. mammo. I think 3D and sono is best.

Yes. Not unusual at all and no reason to be concerned.

Re: Dense Breasts
I have dense breasts. I go for a mammo one year and a sono the next, alternating years. What I really prefer about my dr is he reads the results while you wait, so there's never any "coming back." If he wants more pics or more tests, you do it same day.

Re: Dense Breasts
I have dense tissue also, and go for a mammo / sono every year. I have had to go in for repeat sonos every six months to track suspicious images, and have had additional imaging if necessary.
I don't get worried until I have to, and so far there has never been a need for a biopsy.

Re: Dense Breasts
Very common with dense breasts. 3D mammo really shows those cysts so next time remind your OB to write you 2 scripts. 3D mammo AND sono at same time. That’s what I do every year because have i very dense breast with cysts - the sono confirms the cysts each time.
Try not to worry.

Re: Dense Breasts
It's very common and now that you know you have dense tissue, ensure that you get the 3D mammo and a sono every year. If your doctor won't voluntarily order the sono, make up a complaint of breast pain. Then they will order it. It's very important to get both tests done, particularly given where we live.
