Payroll or HR people
Question for any HR or payroll people. I have a part time job (25 hours a week) at a non profit organization, been here 2 ½ years. I get paid hourly, I do not get paid holidays, vacation days, personal days etc. Every September they give a “raise” with a breakdown of your pay and benefits. Everyone’s raise was dismal. I am going to the head of HR on Monday because the job I was hired for was supposed to be secretarial (super easy) but morphed into me basically being the graphic designer for 3 departments and my pay does not reflect that at all. I just want to have my info straight when I go in. my question is this: Below is the breakdown that they give you and want you to sign. Should mine even say salary? If I don’t get medical how is it part of my total compensation?
Salary xxx Increase % New salary xxx Other benefits FICA xxxx Pensionxxxx Medicalxxxx SUI xxxx Workmens xxxx Total Benefits - xxxx Total Compensation xxxx (salary +benefits)

Unless I am misunderstanding your question, your salary should say (for ex) : $10.00 per hour.
If you got a 50 cent per hour raise, the increase should say 5%

Salary is just how they calculate how much they pay you per year. Even if you're hourly, they add it up to budget how much they set aside to pay you, essentially.
If you are not getting medical benefits, they should not be deducting anything medical. It should say $0.

Re: Payroll or HR people
If you don't get additional benefits those categories should have nothing in them and your total compensation should equal "New Salary".

ok, the salary part then makes sense. But they are adding up all the "other benefits" including the medical and saying that its part of my compensation...

If you are not taking medical as part of your compensation, that should relate to dollars in your pocket. I do not take medical and that is reflected in my salary.

I don't have the option of medical because I am part time, so I don't get anything for not getting it. I think they are doing this all screwy!

Re: Payroll or HR people
In my workplace, they assign a "cost of benefits" to everyone, even if they decline or are not eligible for them.
I am sure you know this, but you should go into your meeting armed with information about what graphic designers earn and that your pay is drastically below. Decide what you want ahead of time: Vacation, sick time, a raise of x%, all of the above? And do the math that t shows that by having you and not incurring the cost of benefits that they are saving a TON.
Any way you could find out the cost of benefits from a coworker on a full time person?
Edited to add - I would also go in with your current job description (secretarial) and then the listing of your projects that fall outside the scope of it. In my workplace, often the people making the decisions like this need things spelled out in black and white. Hope you get all the $ you are entitled to!
