Question about Bat Mitzvah invitation

DH and I were invited to a Bat Mitzvah recently. We're just acquaintances with the dad and have never met the daughter. We declined because we have another obligation that weekend. Do we need to send a gift?

I wouldn't unless you had a relationship with the girl - since you have never even met her, definitely not.

Traditionally it’s an amount of $18 (for chai but this is all Jewish talk and I’m sure you have no idea what I’m talking about lol)
So you could do $36 for the two of you

I would not. The father is just an acquaintance and you've never met the daughter? No way!

Yes, if you were invited I would send a small gift. $36 or $54 probably.

Re: Question about Bat Mitzvah invitation

I would give a gift if I were invited. As said before, multiple of 18, so I’d probably send $54

Re: Question about Bat Mitzvah invitation

Am I the only one that finds it odd to receive an invitation to a special event when the guests are only acquaintances of the host ?

No I think its odd too.

And why would you send a gift to someone you have no relationship with who is the child of someone you barely know? Boggles the mind.

Nope!!!! I can't believe how many people here would send gifts to anything they were invited too, even by a stranger! Can I please have you ladies addresses???? I will invite you to everything if you will send me money even though you don't know me!
