Root Canal experience
Can anyone tell me your experience of when you had a root canal, are you in pain after? I have had them before but not since I was young so I don't remember (in that case, my teeth were damaged due to a fall).
Long story short, pretty sure my dentist over-drilled my tooth for a cavity filling and now I most likely need a root canal because of the pain i've been in...

Re: Root Canal experience
I had one last year.
My gum/jaw was slightly sore the next day, but I could eat on it no problem and didn't even need ibuprofen, although they said I could take it if I was uncomfortable.

Root Canal experience
I've had quite a few and don't really feel too much pain afterwards. I was always just happy to get rid of the pain I was feeling before I had the root canal. Feel better!

Re: Root Canal experience
Your jaw may be sore from keeping you mouth open so long while they are working, but you shouldn't feel any real pain afterwards in the tooth because they are removing the root/nerve so it should be dead after that

Root Canal experience
My experience with root canals is that it depends on the dentist; I've had some dentists who caused major pain from digging out the root/pulp and some dentists who are incredibly gentle and I don't even need Tylenol. You really won't be in much pain, just some annoying soreness but that's it.

Re: Root Canal experience
There is a slight bit of soreness after and the next day. But for me (sorry to be so blunt here), it hurt during it; make sure you get plenty of pain meds during it.
I’ve had about 2-3 (I can’t keep up these days) root canals and they usually require that you go back a few times, depending on the tooth. Each time gets better.

Re: Root Canal experience
Depends on the dentist. I’ve had some that were quite painful after (during the healing process before a crown) and others where I felt nothing at all.
My better experiences have been with Endodontists.

That's exactly what happened to me. The dentist drilled too close to my root. I had pain when I chewed and literally couldn't chew on that side of my mouth. The root canal was a relief b/c I was in so much pain before that. I don't remember having any pain afterwards. Your nerve is gone, so you can't feel pain in that tooth any more. Maybe just some soreness from your mouth being open so long.

Re: Root Canal experience
The root canal was a piece of cake. Mine didn’t hurt at all. It was the crown and post that absolutely sent me over the edge... bleh

That depends too because I had gotten a crown and post and it was a breeze. DH had one done and had a lot of discomfort, his gum bleed in the area, and issues. I guess it really varies person to person and case by case.
