I have had an Amex Gold since 1990. I like that I can transfer points to any program I want, so I am not limited to one airline. I also have an Amex SPG card.

I have an AMEX gold that accumulates points like crazy (we charge everything for the month) I like it because you can’t carry a balance so there’s no overspending. I’ve had it since 2014 and I have well over 200k points we will be using for a trip

Re: Best CC for travel
I have a Delta Amex. If you want to sign up, you can get 70k bonus miles after spending $3k (I get 10k miles for you signing up). That's enough for a couple of tickets at least. We often fly to FL from NYC for 10k each round trip. You also get free checked bags. With the Platinum card, you also get a credit for TSA Pre-Check, so it's free for one person. We use this card for everything and pay it off every month. We rack up SO MANY miles each month. We also love the purchase protection plan with it, and had an issue with Best Buy and returning a new, unused item recently (they wouldn't take it back, even though it was within their terms). Amex refunded us for the purchase. Oh, and you get a companion certificate each year, which is buy one get one free. We used it for Cali last year and saved $500, and used one again this year and saved $475

i've had the capital one venture card for 4 years - have been very pleased with it. if you are not brand loyal to airline/hotel, the chase sapphire card also has some attractive features. i think the best deals are the cobranded cards for a hotel or airline - follow the points guy on fb - lots of good info there!
