mil wants to see an advisor and they have an office nearby. I read some online reviews that were not so favorable, namely hidden fees, or just straight up being lied to about fees.
looking for any input positive or negative.

Re: anyone have experience with Edward Jones investments?
We have an account with Edward Jones for DH's retirement account. He moved his 401k there when he retired, spread it out into various accounts. I find their maintenance fees to be on the high side. honestly, DH should have just left his 401k where it was, but he was adamant about cutting ties with his former employer, the MTA. Do not buy stock thru them, the fees are $$$. We buy stock thru our online TD Ameritrade acct.
DH went with Edward Jones because they are local to us. Location doesn't really matter because you hardly go to their office, aside from the initial setup. Most stuff can be done over the phone.

thank you so much for your reply. this is what my mil wants to do but i think she'll be charged more also by getting out of the group rate at her old job, but she wants to move it so we'll see what they say the fees are in comparison.

We diversified DH's retirement account, buying some CD's, an annuity, some stocks as investment. It's all still retirement, just not all of it in a traditional 401K.
There are other firms out there, Fidelity, Schwab, which I wish we would have looked at.
