Need help with decision

Ok. So DH is outgoing and always up for a fun trip.
I'm always gung ho too, but this one I told him may not be worth it.

So my 9 year old is going to sleep away for a 5 night "get your feet wet" program in the middle of nowhere PA. We will have our younger 7 year old DS.
That same week our close friends rented a house in Rehoboth, DE. So this is what my week would look like if we go.
2.5 hours to drop off DS in PA around 2:30'ish on Sunday. Then DH wants to go from there to DE, which is a 4.5 hour drive.
We would only be there till Tuesday night bc our friend's family is coming in Wed which is 2.5 hours home. Wed I have plans to go to Queens to visit friends with my DS (we live in Central NJ).
Friday early morning we go back to PA to pick up my son so 2.5 hours.

Before DH decided he wanted to go to DE the plan was Monday to Tuesday my inlaws were going to have a special couple of days with younger DS and figured DH and I would go to the beach or something and go out with friends. No kids!

Sorry so long. Seems like a lot, but definitely doable.

Re: Need help with decision

That would be too much driving in a week for me, so I'd skip it.
But I hate being in the car and long rides

I think if I'm reading that right its only an added 2 hrs to get from camp to DE. If you weren't driving the 4.5 hrs you would still be driving 2.5 hrs home.

Its a lot of driving no matter what to get to and from camp.

I think that would be worth it to have 2 nights and 2 days at beach with friends.

share the driving and go!

then again... all of our weekend getaways are from the los angeles area to the vegas/desert area, which is about a 5-6 hour drive each way (depending on who is driving) while towing some monstrosity behind us.

Re: Need help with decision

Your original plan sounds a lot more relaxing for you and DH. No kids for a couple days to reboot? Plus your inlaws are probably looking forward to that extra time w your younger ds.

Original plan would be my choice.

Re: Need help with decision

having just come back form Rehoboth in july and it being the best trip ever, I would do it in a heartbeat!

the extra 2.5 hour drive is not really an issue for me, but then again we drove to Williamsburg, VA from queens (8 hrs) in one shot with a 30 minute stop over for lunch for a 3 day weekend. (left Thursday night, were back by sunday night)

That would be my concern, that I would be taking away special one on one time from my ILs. But if they were just doing it as a favor to you, I'd probably go to DE.

Re: Need help with decision

Thanks all! My MIL did want the time and we figured we can pick another time. Maybe even the weekend after.

Ok. I never been to Rehoboth either so since it sounds like it would be nice may consider it more.

Re: Need help with decision

Idl since DE is like on the way to NJ, I don't see it as that big of deal. The Queens drive sounds like a pain right after a getaway.

I would probably go just because it seems like a cool idea and a new place to visit.

Also can you update me on how the sleep away camp goes. If you can PM the camp or cost that would be cool. I think I might try that next year for DSChat Icon

I love the beach but that’s a lot of work for probably less Jan 48 hours there...
