Want a pool but no clue what kind!
We have a large yard and we originally wanted to get an inground pool but with estimates of close to $60,000 we have changed out minds are now thinking about semi inground or above ground pool. We will call for some estimates but will these be significantly cheaper? Any advice or companies you'd recommend or NOT recommend? TIA!

Re: Want a pool but no clue what kind!
Our semi was done by Modern Comfort and I was very happy with them. They recently did a liner change for us as well and were great.
It's 18X34, it included the deck around the pool and sundeck, all the electrical work, permits, filter, pump, mineral chlorinater, winter cover, vacuum, the works.
We got ours 13 or 14 years ago and it was like $13K at the time complete. Obviously it will be more now but yes it was SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than an inground AND it does not raise your taxes as long as they don't sink it more than 24 inches into the ground. And you don't have to worry about brick work or whatever around it so that is a HUGE savings.
I recommend Modern Comfort or Dunrite. Stay FAR away from Island Rec. You want a pool builder basically. They will know the codes, get permits, do it legally, etc

My parents have a semi inground pool with a hopper liner and a salt water filter. It's awesome if you don't want the expense of an inground. The hopper liner gives a small deep end, maybe 6 feet. I'm not sure what kinds of options there are with that but they have a large shallow end and small deep end which I prefer over a tiny shallow end.

When we got a semi-inground, (about 5 years ago) , the cost for just the pool (and by that, I mean the complete pool with everything you need - cover, vacuum etc) was about half the cost of an inground. The pool was $10K (I think it was 18 x 30 but not sure) and the deck was $14K. I'm pretty sure we were quoted about $20K for the inground pool - again just the pool, but everything that the pool itself required.

we just put in an in ground pool and it cost us half that amount. Could it be the size you are looking at? Ours is a decent size but not huge. I would say if you want the inground - get a few different quotes and maybe look at size if you want to cut the cost?
