Levittown Schools
We been so focus looking for houses zoned to MacArthur or Division HS because of its ratings. Just noticed today that Island Tree went from a 5 yesterday to an 8 today. Do you think that’s an error?

Re: Levittown Schools
What rating system are you referring to? If you are looking at Greatschools.org then PLEASE realize how unreliable their “rating” system is.

Re: Levittown Schools
I went to Island Trees school district and I have friends who kids attend now. They have no complaints. Plus its relatively small school. I think my graduating class had no more thank I think 150 and that might be too high. I would prefer my kids to go to a small school rather than a bigger one.

Re: Levittown Schools
I agree that you really can't really on sites like Great Schools or School Digger as the be all/end all, especially if you are just looking at the numerical rating. You really have to look at the underlying factors. Do your research on each district and see what you want/need for your kids.
As someone else said, Island Trees is a very small district... they are on the Princeton plan so the elementary schools are organized by grade, not the traditional geographic zones. There is one middle and one high school.
Levittown is a very large district with 6 elementary schools (traditional neighborhood schools), 2 middle, and 2 high schools.
Island Trees has very low school taxes for the area, and Levittown has high school taxes (compared to neighboring areas). So that may factor in as well, as you can afford a bit more in Island Trees most likely. I believe you previously posted that you wanted a basement, which you are more likely to find in Island Trees schools (you can also find it in Levittown, but more in the area zoned for MacArthur... north Wantagh).
A lot of people have different views of what's "good" - so you really have to decide what you want for your family (sports, academics, large, small, special ed, etc.) and then look at what each district offers.

Re: Levittown Schools
There was an error on the Island Trees one where there was data reported incorrectly (I think it was the AP data). My guess is that they received an updated file and corrected that error (AP scores were just released for this year).
I'm a parent in Island Trees and my husband also went there. It's an excellent district!

Thank you. Yes we originally wanted a basement but now we're open to not having one if we find a 5 bedroom house. I did notice there's a huge tax difference between both districts. I will do some research on each.

Re: Levittown Schools
Island Trees is supposed to be a good district. I found that when we were looking, houses in Island Trees had lower taxes then all of the surrounding areas. Also some houses in Bethpage were zoned for Island Trees, they had basements.

Here's a number I always recommend looking at: what percentage of the high school's graduates go on to 4 year colleges? Not test scores, number of AP classes offered, Siemens scholars etc..
