Any Late (6 years ++) Night Time Potty People!
My daughter will be entering 1st grade, 6 years old, and still has accidents every single night if I don't wake her up to go before I go to bed. It's every. single. night.
I've tried all the recommendations and nothing has worked. The pediatrician tells me it's normal but: 1. I don't feel like it's normal because all of my daughters friends or my friends claim their kids have been nighttime potty trained since like 3-5... 2. I'm tired of paying for pull-ups and uncomfortable with her wearing them now in 1st grade... and I'm unhappy with my daughter having accidents every night still.
I don't know, I guess I would like to hear opinions or personal stories. Did you have to work on it? Did they end up wetting the bed still at however many years old? Or did it magically change overnight randomly one day?

Re: Any Late (6 years ++) Night Time Potty People!
Have 3 kids. All were day potty trained at around 2 years old. 2 were night trained early (just by themselves). 1 was at age of 6.
Used the Wet Stop 3 alarm device for the late trained one. We were both motivated. Worked in less than a week. I had tried waking him up to pee at night at different intervals, cutting out fluids and all that. The alarm trained him to wake up before or just at peeing.
Found out about the alarm on here.

Normal. Mom of 3 here and all were daytime trained by the time they were 2 years 5 months. My oldest though had nighttime accidents until he was 10. Yes... 10 years old and NOTHING worked. We tried alarms, we tried waking him up before I went to bed.. setting an alarm to take him in the middle of the night. The pediatrician assured me it was normal. He was embarrassed by it. I was changing sheets every day. Suddenly right before his 11th birthday, it stopped.

My Ds is coming up on 5 and is still not night time trained. Every time i think he is ready something happens to show me he isnt. He was daytime trained before 3. Not sure what you can do. I just continue to let him wear a pull up. My doctor also says it is normal. I know there are GI doctors who specialize in this, but not sure exactly what they do.

Re: Any Late (6 years ++) Night Time Potty People!
It's physiological. You absolutely, scientifically, cannot train it unless their body is ready. If the alarm works, it's because their body was ready.
You cannot change the release of hormones that happens that causes nighttime wetting. It's not your child's fault, and placing blame on her is only going to hurt her confidence - though I totally get the frustration with buying pull ups, and/or constant nighttime accidents. I had to change my thoughts because there was nothing my child could change in our situation.
I know several K-1st graders who are in pull-ups at night.
My kid is almost 7 and just started having dry nights, like for the first time ever. Meanwhile my 3 year old was dry overnight for the past year.

Is she drinking before bed?
The last drink she has is before 6, and she goes to bed around 8 right after she pees.

Why are you implying I am blaming my child? Or even trying to place fault? Neither of those are a factor here. I'm looking for solutions to help her progress in this area. I can reassure you that she has no idea we are even frustrated about this. Plus my pediatrician claims there is no link to hormones at play. So was your answer to my question that you didn't intervene for your child at all, and now they are starting to wake up dry more often at 7? Are they still in pull-ups or do you just change their sheets in the middle of the night?

I believe the hormone involved in nighttime bed wetting is something that affects only boys, not girls. But I could be mistaken.

I interpreted your post incorrectly. You stated you were unhappy with her having accidents. And I honestly wasn't implying you were blaming her, for what it's worth, just throwing thoughts I've had in the same situation out there.
It's words on a screen, it happens.
Good luck.

OK wasn't sure. I just feel like it's more prominent and issue in boys. I have read a lot about how boys take longer to night train than girls due to a hormone . Maybe they have more of it than girls or maybe it stays in their body longer than girls?

I know I'm a sample size of 1 but DD took longer to night train than DS.

My older daughter will still occasionally have an accident at almost 10. Dr. said normal.
I try to remind her to use bathroom before bed around 9pm. Try to limit water before bed. We bought mattress waterproof protector. She was in pull ups or diapers (cheaper and she is very small so biggest size would fit) for bed till probably like 7 on a regular basis.
I reassure her that its just her body not her fault. I wouldn't want her to ever feel self conscious about it.
The worst is when its the nights they come in to bed with us

Re: Any Late (6 years ++) Night Time Potty People!
My son will be entering 1st in September and he is still not night trained. I am a little relieved to see so many in the same boat as me- I knew he couldn't be the only one and my dr. made me feel a little guilty like he was so behind. She said 6 was on the later side, but I do have a friend whose son was much later- closer to 10. My daughter was night trained by 3 or 4. She kinda just went to bed one night, stayed dry and that was that. I do feel that it is something they are either ready for or not- and he just isn't ready. I do hate still having to buy pull-ups but he just isn't ready yet. Hopefully soon....

Any Late (6 years ++) Night Time Potty People!
all three of my kids still wet the bed at night. They all wear pull ups. My daughter (7.5) has a hard time turning her brain off at night and she takes 2+ hours to fall asleep. So when she does fall asleep she is in such a deep sleep that she doesn't wake up. My boys (7.5 & 6) just don't always wake up. It's not every single night, but a lot of nights. I've tried waking them before I go to bed and sometimes that helps but not always. I've vut out drinks after 7pm. I am hoping it will just stop one day. Until then we are wearing pull ups to bed every night because I don't feel like washing sheets every night :/

Yes. I heard about it on here (2 years ago), bought one and it worked in a little less than a week. My ped also told me about ADH and we did have bed wetting running in my family... but I figured I’d give it a try. After my success, I found many others used it too. My DS goes to a urologist for an unrelated issue and she recommends the alarm to her patients.
ETA: it is a very loud alarm. Some kids won’t like it because of that. DS was fine with it. It just made that connection for him to wake up when bladder was bursting.

Re: Any Late (6 years ++) Night Time Potty People!
Thanks everyone for the feedback.
Yes unfortunately my daughter is traumatized by alarms and loud noises, so I don't think the device would work although I'd love to try it.
So far she is usually accident free if we wake her up before we go to bed each night. So I guess I will keep trying to keep up with the wake up 1 time in the middle of her sleep to pee. and either she will in time grow out of it, or maybe i should still keep her in pullups. i just dont know!
All the feedback was super useful so thanks for the discussion!

yup.... my DS is going into second grade. and he still used a "GoodNites" pull up thing at night until probably like 6 months ago. i wasn't worried. night time training takes time and its a hormonal thing. he is SUPER SUPER active during the day... so as long as i was sleeping and he was sleeping, we did the Good Nites. then, after a couple weeks of him waking up dry, we stopped using them. and knock on wood its been fine. They just need time... theres a reason theres so many of the "pull up" type things in bigger sizes for night time good luck!!!

My son is 6 he was just fully night trained not too long ago. I was putting him in pull ups while he was asleep so he wouldnt realize he had it on till the next morning. He was waking up bone dry for a coupe of weeks. Then I put the underwear on him. He hasnt had an accident since.

Re: Any Late (6 years ++) Night Time Potty People!
I will make you all feel better. My SS wet the bed until he was about 12. It was almost every day around 6-8, then a few days as he ages to once in a while. The no drinking rule and waking him up in the middle of the night helped. We had him on the weekends so it was easier for us to wake him up.
I did the Night times, the doctor said it was normal he has a small bladder or it wasn't grown as much for his age. Something like that. It was a pain, so I feel what you are going through. My ss is 21 now, and unless he still dose it and cleans it himself - he is fine
I think it was hereditary because his father was the same and my DH sister. I never knew it was normal or happens till I met this family.
