I was just on a road trip and wished we bought one of these for our roof rack as well. Would free up so much space!!

I had them get side rails for my jeep and they put them on for me.

when we went from NJ to CA back in 2014, i bought one on amazon. it was amazing at letting me pack more of my crap lol

The hard shell ones are nicer, IMO, but the soft ones are more convenient. I have a soft case, and all I have to store is the two cross bars and a bag that folds up to the size of a daypack. Even when you're traveling, it's easy to take off the bars and bag and put them in the hotel room.
The hard shells are harder to store when not in use. It's also easier to put the soft case on and off the car, even with only one person.

I've had my soft case for over 10 years. Typically used it once a year.
