Anyone have a high deductible plan for insurance?
I do. It’s my first time. All preventative is fully covered. So far it’s fine. I do have a bunch of other issues so I am about to hit my deductible. My company gives us quite a bit towards it so not that much is really out of my pocket. And my son is really just well visits and I think we had one sick visit. Once I meet my deductible it’s 100% covered. I know other are a co insurance.

I’d rather it not be a high deductible but we’ve gotten used to it. We have an hsa so I make sure we put at least enough for our deductible on it if not more.
We met our deductible in June, yay. Dh got a new job late June so we start all over.

My deductible is $4K I chose that option for a lower monthly premium. My yearly physical and annual gyno appts are covered. That's basically all I use my insurance for. So I would rather have the high deductible.

Re: Anyone have a high deductible plan for insurance?
I've had one for a few years now. There are pros and cons. It could go either way - it could cost you a lot of money out of pocket - OR if you don't get sick, you could end up saving a lot of money. At first, I was very resistant to the plan and hated it but now after a few years, I have some money saved in the HSA account so it makes it a little easier.
Pros - usually a lower monthly premium, your HSA account money is pre-tax, and some employers will contribute to it. Last year, I met my deductible due to ONE hospital visit which sucked, but then after that for the rest of the year, we could all go to the doctor as much as we wanted for just 10% of the cost which was often like $10.
Cons - it's a very hard pill to swallow when you get the doctor bills and you have to pay the whole thing (and not just a co-pay). However I will say that the biggest negative is that because of the cost, I rarely take my kids to the doctor unless it's something very serious, and me and DH never ever go to the doctor. So, I feel like having a high deductible plan is keeping us LESS healthy.

We do. It's at 12500 for family. We get 7300 in an HRA from employer. The HRA is a lot of work to stay on top of. My son is special needs so he hits his max OOP after about 3 months and then we pay nothing for him. We don't have lower premiums, the premium is still $150 weekly. I wish a plan with copays was an option but we've had this for about 9 years.

Anyone have a high deductible plan for insurance?
We just signed up for this....our in=network deductible is $5k and my company is giving us $2500 over the course of the year. We have been using the dr a lot, so I'm hoping that this works out in the end for us....my husband has suddenly started going to the dr a lot...yesterday and going again today for an issue....I thought I read that it works out if you dont go to the dr that much or if you go alot. After the deductible I believer everything is 100% paid for....and I think all I need to do is contribute up to the deductible (which works out cheaper than the other plan by about $2-$3k. I truly hope I've worked this out the right way!!

Same here. My company gives us a benefit card like credit card to cover the first 2500. Like quoted poster said, if you go to dr very little, its fine, I pay nothing as it is all covered by my employer. But this year, i had alot of doctor bills and did have to pay my share of the 2500 before my employer picked up 100%. Some people love it, some hate it.
