Door to door solicitors ignoring my no soliciting sign
So after a testy encounter about a year ago with a solar salesperson, I attached a no soliciting sign to our alarm system sign. I thought that would work. Apparently not. I have had two people knock in the past week. I feel like if I attach it to the house it’s ugly. I feel like if I don’t answer the door it could be someone casing the house. And why do I feel guilty for saying, “Not interested, thank you, have a nice day!” and shutting the door while the guy is still talking?! And we do not have a doorbell. The video doorbell from our alarm company is sitting on my dresser intimidating me.
It is 2018. If I want something, I will use the Internet to find a reputable company.

Re: Door to door solicitors ignoring my no soliciting sign
I just don't answer. I don't care if they can see me walking around, see both cars in the driveway, hear my TV. I don't answer. I know you say you worry about them casing the house, but I don't even think about that.
Eventually they get the hint.
It drives me MAD. Absolutely mad. They are so intrusive too. Opening my screen door and banging on my front door aggressively.

Don't answer the door. Period. I never answer for anyone I don't know.
Are you in TOH? I have a Do Not Knock decal from the TOH (Free). They could be fined if they do knock and you have one.
"If there is a Do Not Knock sign on the door, they do not knock and that's it," Town Supervisor Kate Murray said at a news conference. "And if they don't [respect it], they face a $500 penalty." Residents should call the town at 516-812-3200 to have stickers mailed to them.

Door to door solicitors ignoring my no soliciting sign
I just don't answer the door if I don't know who it is. I had a no solicitors sign on my door for years, but it got ignored plenty, so now I just don't answer. We also got a Ring doorbell. And I feel like its cut down on the random solicitors. I don't think they like being recorded.

I look out from my window to see who it is. If it's not FedEx / UPS / UPSP or the Chinese food delivery guy, I'm not going downstairs to open the door.

Re: Door to door solicitors ignoring my no soliciting sign
Funny story about this. My BIL once said he was sitting in his recliner watching TV and had his front door wide open. It was summer and the screen was in. His living room and where he was sitting is clearly viewable from the front door.
So some sales guy comes to the door and knocks. My BIL looks over, sees he has on the Verizon or Cablevision or whatever shirt and the clip board and just stares at him, then goes back to watching TV. The guy knocks again. BIL ignores it. The guy starts to yell out- excuse me, hello? Excuse me. HELLO??? He is looking right at my BIL and knows he is there.
BIL glances at him again and ignores him.
This went on for a few minutes until the guy took the hint and walked away.
I always laugh at that story.
Fuk these solicitors. If I want you, I'll call you.

Re: Door to door solicitors ignoring my no soliciting sign
we have 2 no soliciting signs. One on the door and one on our porch.
People always knock...
Or I get the religious pamphlets.
I literally have this in black on our porch...

Re: Door to door solicitors ignoring my no soliciting sign
I have this right at the top of my steps in the flower box , which is right under the ring bell
It works 95% of the time. There’s always those few who ring the bell anyway and I answer on my phone saying no thank you. When they continue talking, I allow my Rottweiler to jump up at the window like cujo. They usually leave then.
Before getting this sign, I had solicitors about 4x a week. Torture !!!
Maybe make sure your sign is right in their face. That’s why I got a pretty one. I don’t mind it on the house.
ETA: I got it off of Etsy

I rent is the best answer ever

I said this to one guy at BJ’s (we were still renting at the time) and he said, “You look like you own a house.” What does that even mean?!
I was approached three times in one shopping trip at BJ’s. I’m not renewing once my membership is up.

Re: Door to door solicitors ignoring my no soliciting sign
So, this stalker from Cablevision has been haunting us for weeks now. Every other day he is banging on our door around dinner time. We never answer. Ever. Each time he leaves a big post it note type sticker on our door telling us about some deal, and to call him. Tonight he did it again. I am getting a Sharpie out tomorrow morning and writing on the sticker he left...NO SOLICITORS... in big letters. I might add a #Fiosforlife #Verizon just to be a bitchh.

Call him at 2am. He doesn't specify what time to call him .......
The other day I was home alone. Jehovah Witnesses rang the bell. The Spectrum guy tried again. Then around 7pm, 2 people from the Republican party tried - oh she's home, the light is on. I heard them mention my name as they were walking thru the courtyard. If they would have looked up, they would have seen me standing at the window with a wineglass in hand.

Door to door solicitors ignoring my no soliciting sign
The people selling stuff who are polite I give a pass. I don’t think anyone grows up thinking “I want to be a door to door salesman!” I assume this is a last resort job and they need to support their families. Everyone needs to make a living. But if they’re nasty or pushy, screw em.
DH is a sucker for them. He listens to their pitch and if it’s a charity, he gives them money. I shouldn’t have to pay any taxes, ever, with the amount of money he’s given to charities that are probably fake. Once we had a girl in her 20’s who was collecting money to save the swordfish or something and I wanted to end the story of the plight of the swordfish so I said “fine, give her $10” and she said “actually, the suggested donation is $26.” We didn’t have $26 so she said “I take checks.”

I am never nasty to them because like you said, they are just doing their job. I just don't answer at all. But I blame the corporations they are working for. In this day and age, Cablevision should not be banging on my door non stop for weeks on end to try to get my business. If I want you, I'll let you know. Ridiculous.

Cablevision used to drive me crazy! Every. Single. Day.
I can't tell you how many times I told them no. Finally one day I had a new Cablevision guy come to the door. I told him that DH works for Verizon and if they can beat "free" they could have my business - they never bothered us again.
Oh and DH does NOT work for verizon.

That's a great idea actually.
To be honest, it's such a turn off, this way of trying to get business, that even if I wanted to switch back to them, I wouldn't because of this. I'd pay more to keep Fios just because I am so turned off by their business tactics. I'm a spiteful bitcch like that

Re: Door to door solicitors ignoring my no soliciting sign
So I come home tonight and Dh tells me that we won't be seeing that Cablevision guy anymore. Apparently DH was coming home from running some errands around 3 this afternoon and noticed a car parked in front of our house. In it was the Cablevision stalker. Dh drove around the block a few times thinking he would be leaving but he just sat there. Apparently he was sitting outside our house waiting for someone to come home. Like a creepy fuking stalker. Dh pulled in the driveway at this point, got out of his car, and the guy starts getting out of the car. Before he can take a step, DH yells, "I'M NOT INTERESTED!!!" The guy says...you don't even want to hear what I have to say? Dh yells "No!! Not interested!" The guy gets pissed, says, wow, great talking to you...And leaves. The fact that this dude was stalking our house like that and sitting out there for God knows how long waiting to catch us come home since we refuse to answer our door, really rubs me the wrong way and quite frankly, creeps me the eff out . If I had been the one to come home I think I would have threatened to call the cops if I ever saw him creeping around my house again. Get the goddamn hint! When does this bullshitt become harassment?
