Planning Communion - venue help
My DS will be making his communion next year but we find out the date next week. I know the psycho moms in my town will have everything all booked 5 minutes after. Since I really don't want to have the party at my house, I figured I should probably get ahead of the game here.
I've been to several communions this year. I don't want a restaurant because the kids - almost all boys- need a place to be able to play. I really don't want a catering hall because I don't want this communion to turn into a mini wedding. I guess what I'm looking for is either a place to rent or a more casual catering hall that has outside space that if it is nice, people can go outside. Preferably western Suffolk.
Has anyone been to a function at the Sunken Meadow Pavillion? Any reviews on that?
Or the West Sayville CC? Or the Bergen Point CC? Or Snapper Inn? Or Bella Verde in Deer Park?
Or if you have been to communion that you thought was a great spot for something like that, please share! I'm not closed off to anything.
The communion will be in Babylon so I'm trying to stay within like a 15 minute ride from there.

I've been to 2 parties at Sunken Meadow. They were both nice, but one was in June and there's no a/c. It was a bit uncomfortable in the heat.

I went to one in the upstairs room at Shannon Court in east Islip. It was a nice space.

I think the Irish Coffee Pub has a room upstairs that spills out onto a balcony/patio/terrace type thing

Snapper Inn is nice and yes you can spill outside to the back lawn. I went to a party there and we all went outside for a bit. Food is good too

The gazebos at both Islip Beach and East Islip Marina can be rented out. I know friends that have done this for events. It’s like $50.

From your list, I'd pick Verde or Snapper Inn. But as pp posters mentioned, Irish Coffee Pub and Shandon Court are places I'd also look into - especially Irish Coffee Pub

I didn’t even know about this! Thank you!
I called around today and the problem I’m running into is that if the place also hosts weddings, they won’t book smaller parties until 3 months out.

The Snapper Inn has a small private room. Minimum is 20 people and it goes up at at least 30 I would say.

I don't know how big or small you were looking for but I just attended a Communion Party that was held at Country Fair in Medford - the room is very nice - held about 10 round tables - small dance floor - DJ and 2 food tables. The kids also got arcade cards for the arcade on the 1st floor - all indoors

It's Eastern Nassau, but our go to for parties is the Seaford Knights of Columbus. They have a medium size room in the basement, which has a dance floor, so the kids have room to run around. The catering is very reasonable, and it's been good every time.

Re: Planning Communion - venue help
We just had my DS's communion and did lunch at The Savyille Inn. They have a back room/building (they call it the tavern) that holds 30-40 people and a great outdoor space behind where they will set up cornhole. The owners were great to deal with... very accommodating and it was very reasonably priced.
