Jury Duty - Doesn't Speak English
Hi,
My bf's mother was called for jury duty but doesn't speak english. She got excused once last year because she had a surgery and the doctor sent a note. She got a notice that she must appear tomorrow or she'll be fined/arrested. My question is ... she probably won't serve bc she doesn't speak english, right? How long does it take to get excused? Also, can my bf go in with her? She's a very nervous lady in general, especially since she doesn't speak the language.
Thanks! It's been a while since I served and I got excused because I was a student but I can't remember how long I was there. She doesn't drive so my BF is wondering if he'll just wait for her all day there or what? I remember they took my cellphone away because it had a camera.

The lawyers won’t want her if she can’t speak the language of the case. She should just go and wait. I’m not sure if your BF can go in with her; I haven’t done jury duty in 20 years.

Your BF can go with her and serve as a translator. As a lawyer, I can promise you they will not be taking her since she can't speak the language. She will be excused and that will be the end of it. She may just have to sit it out the day though.

Ok, thanks! He has class so he's stressed about missing it but I'll give him a heads up.
