So last year we learned the hard way that a lovely bug called the crane fly (looks a lot like a mosquito) destroyed our lawn. Literally turned it to a dirt patch. We had no idea what caused it for months.

These buggers are new to NY and invading fast. If you see any congregating on the outside of your house (by your light fixtures in particular), beware! They are completely harmless and don't bite. But their larvea are the issue. They bury the larvae in the soil and then just feed on your lawn and destroy it.

Keep your eyes peeled! They crop up in april/may. I just saw a few yesterday on my house and am spraying my flower beds and lawn as a precaution. I don't want to go through reseeding again!!!!

Anyone else experience this...?
