The majority of my food shopping is done at Trader Joe’s, however there are certain items I prefer getting from Whole Foods like specific types of milk, eggs, flours, ground beef (believe it or not they have the best price for grass fed ground beef, I mean compared to TJs), bread, some veggies/fruits that TJs don’t carry, and a few other things. I go to these stores approx once every other week. Once a month I go to Costco to get non edible things like toilet paper, soap, paper towels, etc, the only thing I get that’s edible is Kerigold butter because they have it at a better price than even TJs, and once in a blue moon if something catches my eye like these really yummy crackers that have turmeric, flax seed, and other stuff. This year I’ll be getting seasonal veggies and fruits through a CSA share with my local farmer, I did the calculations and I’ll be saving a lot more than if I were to buy those items in any supermarket.

I’ll preface by saying I’m a SAHM so its definitely easier for me to do small trips throughout the week when needed.

I use a rotation of 3 stores. Typically I’ll do a larger scale food shop once a week (Sunday or Monday) and in an average week, I’ll go 1-2 times extra to get something random. Meat I like to buy the day of, or day before I make it. Fish I buy the day of. I get that people buy more in advance and go by the date on the package but this is just how my mom did it, so it’s what I’m used to. I also like to replenish berries which we go through very quickly in my house.

There have been occasions I’ll go to two different supermarkets in the same day, but at nearly 8 months pregnant I try to avoid that if possible. It’s usually only if I’m making something specific where I prefer the selection of one item at a separate store (so I’ll spend maybe 45 mins in the first store but then just 5 mins in the next just grabbing what I need). I try to plan better so I don’t have to do this though....

I go to my local grocery store at least 2x a week. I go to a different one if they have chicken on sale. I go to Walmart once a month to get household products. I go to Trader Joe’s once every 6-8 weeks.

I hit BJs every couple of weeks as well.
