dermatologist that doesn't take forever to get an appointment?
Does this even exist? I feel like every specialist has a three-six month wait these days!
My teenage daughter is dealing with acne on her face, back and chest... it's really bothering her and now it's affecting her confidence in public/at school. I made an appointment for her for June (!), but was hoping I could maybe find something sooner in the meantime.
Suffolk county preferred, but will travel for a sooner appointment lol.

Try Belaray dermatology in Hicksville. I didn't wait long at all for an appointment. I saw dr McCall.

Two possibilities: 1) Dr. Paul Schneiderman (fabulous!) who I saw for years and is extremely knowledgable and generally wonderful (he takes limited insurance though); or 2) Dr. Abitibol at South Nassau Dermatology (we got my 6 month old in the same day....had to beg but we got in an were happy with her)

Yup, same one! In Syosset. I still go to him on occasion for things....he really is fabulous and SO knowledgeable (I think he was or is on the board or the head of the board of dermatology for columbia or something) -- its been probably 20+ years of seeing him (my parents see him too) and he still remembers me and treats me like we saw each other yesterday. Love him!

I used to go to the Fresh Meadows office years ago and was always happy with them. They’re a bit factory-ish from what I remember but for something like acne (which is also why I went) they get the job done.

Re: dermatologist that doesn't take forever to get an appointment?
I don't have a recommendation for anyone in Suffolk. I used to go to a large practice for myself. If I wanted to see the main doctor who owned the practice, the wait was long. If I wanted to see a different doctor in the practice or a PA, I could be seen within the week, maybe even the same day. Another option if you are fairly flexible is to keep calling and asking if they have any cancellations.

We used Advanced Dermatology in Setauket, but they have several offices throughout Suffolk. They were pretty quick to get an appointment. Having said that, nothing they gave us really helped significantly with her acne. She ended up going on the pill as her problems seem to be all hormonal. Not sure how old your daughter is and if that is even an option, but just throwing it out there.

I dont live in Suffolk so I cant give you a recommendation, but i agree with the pp who said a practice with multiple docs is your best bet. I usually get in the same day if im willing to see a PA. Just wanted to add that i suffered mild acne in my 20's and only in my 30's did i find something that finally worked. Clindamycin gel. It is an antibiotic. I only put it on acne prone areas. I usually only get a breakout now every few months.

Be careful with the Differin gel. I used it on my son a few times a couple of months back. I don't know if he is allergic to it or what, but all around his eyes were dark red. I did not use the product near his eyes, only on his forehead. So, I'm not sure. But, when I stopped using it, the issue went away! I also read don't use it at night since it gets on the pillow and can get into their eyes that way. I put it on him in the morning, but still had a problem!
