If you love your town....

If you love your town - have nice genuine friends and your kids have the same - School and community are great but not super competitive. Decent commute to nyc.

Where do you live?

We moved to Farmingdale almost 3 years ago as well we don’t have kids but we love our neighborhood and have become great friends with our neighbors. Dh commutes into manhattan 3 days a week from the Bethpage station and it isn’t too bad (about 45 min to penn).
Main Street is really being developed nicely and the Park we live next to us undergoing a huge expansion.

West Islip. Great community, small town feel, excellent schools. It's a good mix of NYC professional and blue collar jobs. Easy access to beaches, Babylon and Bay Shore village shopping / restaurants and LIRR (Babylon and Deer Park stations).

Farmingdale here. We’ve been here 8 years. Love our neighbors and meeting more and more people now that my son is in school and I don’t spend all my time in the city anymore.

Not the town I thought we would live in but now I don’t see myself leaving. I am super impressed with the school my son is in.

Another vote for Farmingdale! We love it here. DH commutes into Penn on the LIRR 5 days a week and takes the train out of Massapequa which is on the Babylon line. We are friendly with almost everybody on our block and our closest proximity neighbors are kind, genuine, caring people. Everyone helps each other out -- snowblowing properties in the winter, bringing in your neighbors garbage cans off the curb, helping out the elderly neighbors with the upkeep of their property, watching your child if you need to run a quick errand, letting out your dogs into the yard with a spare key when you're running late on the way home, etc. DH and I feel very fortunate to be surrounded by such great people and know how rare it is to not have a problems with ANYONE around us. No parking feuds, no one is loud beyond a reasonable time, everyone keeps their house looking nice. We love the downtown area on Main Street and are close to everything on both Rt. 110 and Sunrise Highway. Schools are good, great athletics, strong music/arts programs. PM me with any questions!

Re: If you love your town....

Lynbrook.

We just moved 2 years ago and I really like it. I'm a Queens girl and all our family is in Queens/Bronx so it was important to be relatively close. On a good day, it's about a 25 minute drive to Queens. On a work day during the school year, about 45 minutes. But it works for us. It's about 35 minutes to Penn on the LIRR which I'm walking distance to two different stops. We have a little main drag with some nice restaurants, and a movie theater being completely renovated and set to open this summer, also walking distance. Grocery store also walking distance as well as a few parks. Shopping is lacking, but we do have Sunrise Highway and the Green Acres mall a short drive away. RVC is also a short drive/taxi ride away for when we want to go out. We haven't used the schools yet as DD is only 2, but we moved here particularly for the phenomenal schools. All in all, I really like it here! It's a beautiful area. We moved in when the weather was starting to warm up and I walked through the town and had a little pleasantville vibe, but in a good way... a father and son playing catch in the street, kids riding their bikes, a grandpa setting up a lemonade stand on the sidewalk with his grandkids. Second Lynbrook! My oldest is in elementary school and we could not be happier. I love her friends and their parents. Great activities at the Rec Center and all local sports. So happy here!

This. We're in Massapequa Park though but Farmingdale schools. We absolutely love it here. The town, community, location, etc. The commute on the LIRR is not bad at all. Although not rated as highly as other districts the schools are strong, great programs and great families with a strong sense of community. We have firefighters, lawyers, bankers, engineers, nurses, cops, construction workers, etc in our communities and everyone is super down to earth. We're proud to be part of this area.

Downtown Farmingdale has an awesome Main Street with lots of great restaurants. We're close to all shops and highways. We love it here!

Bayport. Absolutely love it. My husband commutes to the city from Sayville or Ronkonkoma.
The schools are top-notch. Blue Ribbon, special recognitions year after year, class sizes are small.
It's a small close-knit community with houses ranging from the 300's to over one million. My favorite part is the proximity to the water. There is a small beach with playground down the road.

The commute from either sayville to Ronkonkoma to the city is a nightmare! It’s a long 1.5 hours and that is IF the LIRR is actually running on time. We love where we live but if commute is a big factor to you towns out this far in Suffolk will be a rough commute.

Yes.
704 train from Ronkonkoma is a super express and it gets in at 820 to give you an idea.
And that is one of the fastest expresses.
Anything with more stops is longer.
And of course, it's always delayed so.....

That's another thing I like about Lynbrook- we're on the Long Beach/Babylon line and I find we rarely if ever have delays. And if we do, it's maybe 5/10 minutes tops- and I think that was once in the past 2 years.
