Question about rear seat entertainment in SUVs

Our lease is up and we've been looking for SUVs to lease, the majority didn't offer a rear seat entertainment system which is such a bummer for us. We've now narrowed it down to 2, and of course they don't offer it either. For those of u who have gotten an SUV without an enternainment system in the back, what have u done? Install it separately? Opt for iPads?

We have an SUV without rear seat entertainment. If we are going on any lengthy drives, the boys use our iPad or their 3ds. They probably wouldn't have wanted to watch the same thing anyway so it's easier.

Re: Question about rear seat entertainment in SUVs

I've never been a fan of built-in entertainment units in vehicles. They get outdated so quickly. If something newer than Bluetooth comes out, and your phone supports it, but the built-in screens don't, you can't use the screens.
If DC want to use apps (phone, game console, etc), they won't be using the screens.

True but it's just so convenient using dvds for the kids. They're still young (2 and 4) so they're more than happy to just see their favorite movies and shows, even if they're on repeat lolol!!

I'm afraid that if we use the iPads, it'll become a pain having to deal with lack of wifi in certain areas (when we go on road trips which we often do)

I think my kids get enough screen time at home, I don't need to give them more in the car. We don't have entertainment in the car and we don't miss it. We've done plenty of long car rides and the kids bring their toys or talk. It's fine! You can always buy portable DVD players if you don't want to get iPads with data plans for the kids. MUCH cheaper.

They sell portable dvd players. I'd opt for that. I agree, dvd player is clutch for long car rides. I'm surprised you can't find a SUV with entertainment package! Did you look at the Acadia? I'm almost positive my brother has it, but he might own his. I'm not sure.

I went from one with an entertainment system to one without and they don't miss it at all. They can use a hand held device and tap into my hotspot if needed.

I negotiated that they have it installed for me. However, I did by a used car so it was an aftermarket DVD Player in it. You can go that route or just buy portable ones that can attach to the back of the headrests my parents I think did that.

We have one and rarely use it. DS prefers to talk or sleep on long rides. I did not really want one, but I bought a used car and it came with it. I would not go out of my way for one. DS is 6 and we have had it since he was 4. He prefers his kindle, DS3 or switch.

Re: Question about rear seat entertainment in SUVs

we have something like these. I forget the exact brand name.

https://www.amazon.com/NAVISKAUTO-Ultra-thin-Backseat-Headrest-Player-Black/dp/B01MTJP163/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1521566017&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=car+dvd+players&psc=1

just DVDs, like you said, we just play on repeat and switch out the DVD whenever the older one asks.

Re: Question about rear seat entertainment in SUVs

one of our cars has rear entertainment; it comes in handy but the kids have a hard time agreeing on what to watch. The system also gets outdated quickly and its hard to find headphones and things we need

For my car, if we do long rides they get their amazon fire tablets. I have a ton of movies on a memory card and they can watch whatever they want; no need for a data plan or wifi. Best $50 purchase I made!

Exactly! The majority are not including it with any packages, one of the cars we want did say they can install it but we'd have to pay at least 2k JUST for that!!! Crazy!!!

Can iPads and DVD players be synchronized and play one movie at the same time? It'd be a hassle playing a movie for each kid!

They sell a DVD player with two screens you attach to the headreast - friends of ours have it.

i bought portable dvd players and I love them! You can find them to come as a set of 2 and they can play their own DVD or there is a wire that you can hook it up that the can both watch the same thing on their own screen. You can then buy (or some come with) the attachment to hook it on the back of the front seat head rest
