Hosting a holiday brunch
My family is completely old school Italian (it is blasphemy to have a holiday meal that doesn’t include macaroni and sauce, typically then followed by some sort of roast). Anyways, we are doing Palm Sunday this year, just with our in laws and bil and nephews and thought we’d possibly do a more laid-back brunch if I can convince dh. What the heck would I serve? I’m not opposed to having most of it catered. I still want it to feel holiday-special. Any thoughts on a menu! Tia!

Re: Hosting a holiday brunch
Not sure where you are located but Lombardis Market does a catered brunch.
If you want to cook I usually do a breakfast casserole (eggs, hash browns, sausage, etc), french toast casserole, fruit salad, muffins, and my famous blueberry croissant puff.

Hosting a holiday brunch
I hosted a small brunch last year. I had assorted quiche, french toast rollups, bagels, muffins, fruit and a yogurt parfait.
ETA you could definitely add a pasta salad, spiral ham and veggies to a more breakfast-y menu.

Yes! Here it is. It's super easy too and always a huge hit. It's more like a dessert so you can serve it after the meal too if you want.
Blueberry Croissant Puff
Also wanted to add... trader Joe's sells these almond croissants in the frozen section that are incredible to serve at a brunch. You have to bake them...not just reheat... they are basically uncooked. But soooo amazing.

Re: Hosting a holiday brunch
i love easter brunch. sadly, this year, i'm having to modify because i'll be having my second eye surgery that week.
last year, i made (a lot of food): * pork roast * french toast sticks * pancake bites * breakfast casserole * blueberry scones with clotted cream * tortellini salad * loaded potatoes * carrot cake * mimosas * beer * juice * tea * coffee
this year, people still wanna come over, but we've decided on a bit of a pot luck because i won't be able to cook as much.

Hosting a holiday brunch
If you don't want to do eggs and that sort of thing, then small finger foods like mini quiches, ham croissants, cheeses and fruits, bagels and egg salad, tuna salad etc, a pasta dish and maybe shrimp.

Re: Hosting a holiday brunch
Thank you everybody for the ideas. My husband did not take to the idea, so unfortunately a pot of sauce it is. I’m so upset. I’m actually heartbroken. I know it’s not a big deal, but every.single.holiday is the same thing. We can never be creative and fun. Looking at these menus, I’m so jealous.

Do what you want. He can have a pot of sauce another day. If you are so heartbroken, try something else.

I agree. If you and everyone else would enjoy brunch, I wouldn’t change it just for him.

Hosting a holiday brunch
My family was the same way always sauce somewhere. Last year my mom said hey lets do brunch (I had been suggesting it for years). It was great and now we are doing it again this year. Everyone really enjoyed it.

i agree with the others. do it.
what's the worst that can happen? you come to the realization that the "usual" way is the best way for your family.

Is he going to be cooking the pot of sauce? If so, fine, let him cook.
If not, then you cook what you want. If they don't like it, they can host next time.

He can do whatever he wants if he is doing all the cooking.

Hosting a holiday brunch
I know it's supposed to be about getting together with family and celebrating the holy day, but I've always secretly resented the pot of sauce on Easter. Easter is light and airy and pastel; it makes you want to not eat sauce...again.

Hosting a holiday brunch
I think it takes alot for men to want to change anything. They are usually creatures of habit. My guess is the traditional food is what he is used to and it brings comfort. I absolutely loveee the brunch idea personally and all these recipes and ideas sound amazing. Maybe do it for something else? Celebrate Summer? 4th of July? Bday Gathering?

Re: Hosting a holiday brunch
Lol thanks ladies for having my back!! My dh makes sure I get breakfast in bed and a dinner out on mother’s day! Yes he’s slow to change and Palm Sunday is hosting HIS family (who is also not good with change) so I won’t push the brunch! But I love the idea of doing it for something else ...
