ugh what is it with young/new coworkers??

5 new teachers were hired this year, and a couple of them mind their own business and do their jobs very well.

Two of them, however, really got close to a few coworkers who were hired last year. They are very cliquey, and extremely unprofessional in meetings. A teacher asked a question in a staff meeting today, and this group actually mocked them and mimicked the way the teacher spoke while giggling. A lot of teachers noticed this behavior and were peeved by it. How is it that people can be that unprofessional/ungrateful for their job? GOOD teaching jobs are so hard to come by, and they are so lucky to have been hired in this school/district. Just can't believe the extreme lack of maturity and professionalism. ugh

I sometimes don't even think it's an age thing, unfortunately.

I have seen women in their 30s and 40s act like assholes while coworkers in their 20s are the epitome of professionalism and courtesy.

I think that some people are just assholes.

Probably stems from some past insecurities if you ask me.

Did anyone address the behavior as it was happening? I would have and if there was a senior teacher or supervisor in the meeting; the behavior definitely should have been addressed.

I think cliquey behavior as always been and is nothing new. What worries me is that these teachers are directly influencing children and children will mimic behaviors.

Yes I believe it has been addressed before, and I am 99% sure someone is mentioning this morning's behavior today. We have a teacher who's role (aside from teaching) is to ensure the staff is collaborating and essentially acting like professional teachers aiming towards success for their students. Unfortunately, it's hard to focus on such things and keep the right goals in mind when others are disrupting that. Especially when some senior teachers have clearly changed since spending more time with these newer, younger ones. Seems to be creating a divide that I worry will cause a big issue in the future.

so the teachers who are to teach and correct and make sure students are safe from bully's are actually bulling their co-workers .. that's great.

I would have said something at that time. It seems that people tend to follow these bullies, whether adults or kids. As we would tell our kids - someone needs to stand up to them at the moment ad nip this before it gets out of hand. If that can't be done - I would go up the chain to report this

I feel like assholes like this need to be called out and embarrassed in front of the group every time they do it.
By a supervisor, or even a co worker.
You should be made to feel like the asshole that you are.
I have zero patience for this from grown adults.

Yup... They graduated but never left high school. I feel more insecure Asst 40 than at 16. Teachers too.
