From gas to electric

I wanna electric stove and electric dryer. How do I go about getting rid of these gas appliances? Is there a connection for the dryer that can just be disconnected? I figure I'd just sell the gas stove and use that $ buy an electric stove.
Thanks.

Re: From gas to electric

I believe they can cap off the gas lines.
Do you have electric outlets nearby? If not you will need them installed and I do believe they are 220 lines so you would need to get an electrician in to do that

This. I have electric and want gas. We switched to gas heat and have a gas line capped at the stove and we won’t switch til our appliance have issues.

For the electric appliances you need the proper outlets. It’s not a standard one.

Re: From gas to electric

Electric dryers use alot energy dependent of course on use.. Is there a reason you want to not use gas?

Do you have gas for heat? Gas rates are extremely good (imo)

Is this true? I never thought about it. When we get our quarterly breakdown from the electric company, our usage for laundry (washer and dryer combined) is a tiny fraction of our electric bill . I hate the electric stove and wish I had gas but I don’t believe our electric dryer costs us anything really to run.

I also think electric dryers are less efficient. I’ve had both electric and gas dryers. I used to have to run the electric dryer cycle 2-3 times sometimes to dry the clothes. My gas dryer sometimes dries clothes in a half hour.

Re: From gas to electric

Thanks everyone. I do have gas now for everything and its costing a fortune (see my other thread for $150/week) yea... I will be changing to another company but I am still exploring the options because I figure if I split up everything it wont cost so much. so we shall see...

On another note, I know someone will throw something at my head but...I wish I could convert to oil for the heat Chat Icon

Oil is definitely more expensive than gas, but I think you have propane now, not natural gas.

You have propane though, right?
Natural gas is generally cheaper but if you don't have the gas lines in your neighborhood, then yes, you have to use propane if you want gas appliances and it gets expensive.
We have no natural gas on my block- the houses around the corner do- and I have only electric appliances as a result
We have a propane tank for the pool heater only

just wondering why you would want to switch from gas to electric, because you will be wasting alot more money over time by doing this. Also, if you lose power, you cannot use your stove to cook or anything if you have electric

ETA: just read previous posts- i would switch to natural gas

The issue is she may not have that option.
I don't.
Hence why she is on propane.
Natural gas is not available in all areas, unfortunately

Re: From gas to electric

@ NN - yes I have 2 tall propane tanks and each is 150/week.

The company said they would do 240/every two weeks for the two tanks. but that is still expensive= 480/month
I found a company that'll do for 115 each and thats the cheapest.

Gas lines aren't in my area yet and only God knows when.
SInce the tanks came with the house, all companies Ive called wants the permit from the TOB and proof I own the tanks Chat Icon - (and safety checks which I can understand).

I have a few electricians coming this weekend to tell me about changing the appliances to electric and one or two other things I wanna do.

I have electric appliances and while I would prefer gas- esp for my stove- they aren't that bad. And my electric bill is not terrible either

In all seriousness you are not handling this situation well. $150 a week for propane is a rip off. I said this in your previous thread. Dump these companies and cancel them.

Sign up with Petro and have them FILL your tanks when you need propane. Doing exchanges is a colossal waste of money. How do you know what you are exchanging. Maybe you still had 3/4 a tank. Why are you paying $150 for full tanks every week?

I have a 2400 square foot colonial. Have one tank outside. Forget the size. Might be an “80”. I literally get two deliveries a year for propane. Each delivery about $120. Have my stove and a gas dryer on propane in my house.

Even if you use more if you do fills with Petro vs tank exchanges it will save you a ton of money. Worst case scenario you may have to purchase your own propane tanks from them if you don’t own your tanks. $1300 most likely for a tank. One time charge. Then cheap fills.

If a company wants proof you own the tanks tell them they were included as part of the sale of the house. Or just buy the tanks yourself like I said and tell your current company to take the tanks. Less hassle in the end and you will probably break even in a few months vs the $150 per exchange per week. You already have the infrastructure on your house for gas. Why change that?

Seriously. If you need help FM me. But dump these guys.

Yes thanks. You are absolutely right. I wasnt handling it correctly.

I did call every single place in the last thread and everyone. every.single.one. wanted either permit, fire marshall report and proof that I owned the tanks. I literally had a migrane after speaking to everyone.
