Any good "half-way" stops for kids on the way to Sesame place?
Looking to break up the long drive for my kids from Suffolk county to Sesame place this summer. Need something for the way there and the way back since we'll be staying over a couple nights. I have the Brooklyn Bridge park in mind as one idea. Don't really want to deal w driving in the city and parking. Looking for ideas in Brooklyn, Staten island or maybe NJ border for my kids to stretch their legs without going too far off our route.

That s good to know! I'm just a little nervous about the trip bc my 1 year old usually screams his head off even for very short trips in the car, so I can't imagine how he'll do with 2 plus hours was hoping to stop somewhere to let him play and run around so hopefully he'll take a nap for the rest of the trip.

Bridgewater NJ on the opposite side of highway 287 from Bridgwater Commons Mall is an enormous outdoor free play space with a wooden pirate ship, air plane, swings, train. It is close to the police station. You would get off at the same exit for the mall.

I agree that it's really not a long drive at all. We went when the kids were 3 and 1. We drove down to the Philly Please Touch Museum first, which was AWESOME...but that's actually driving further, so not a pit stop. I'd still recommend it. On the way home we stopped at the Crayola Factory. The kids really liked it, but our 1yo was a little young for it.

We are in Suffolk and never stop either. If you head out early to beat traffic it's under 2.5 hours for us to get there. We head home when the park closes so the kids are beat and sleep the whole way home.
